Base Class: Sorcerer
Your power draws from the immortal flame that fuels the legendary phoenix. You or your ancestors perhaps rendered a phoenix a great service, or you were born in its presence. Whatever the cause, a shard of the phoenix’s power dwells within you.
That power is a mixed blessing. Like the mythical creature, you can invoke fiery energy and gain the ability to cheat death itself. This power comes at a cost. The fire within you seethes, demanding to be unleashed. You sometimes find yourself absentmindedly feeding fires. You can’t bear to allow a fire to sputter out. You feel most comfortable while holding a lit torch or sitting in front of a campfire.
More importantly, this gift comes with no special protection from fire. You are as vulnerable as any other creature to fiery magic, including your own. Phoenix sorcerers can use their powers to pull themselves back from the brink of death, and all too often their own, rash nature or reliance on destructive magic is what puts them there in the first place.
Such sorcerers are wanderers by necessity. The volatile nature of their magic makes other folk nervous. If a fire breaks out in town, a phoenix sorcerer had best flee, whether guilty or not. Fire is a dangerous force, and phoenix sorcerers have a reputation (deserved or not) for reckless behavior, confident that the essence of the phoenix can save them.

Phoenix Spells
1st-level Phoenix feature
You learn the produce flame cantrip. You also learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Phoenix Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an evocation or an abjuration spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.

Ignite
At 1st level, you gain the ability to start fires with a touch. As an action, you can magically ignite a flammable object you touch with your hand—an object such as a torch, a piece of tinder, or the hem of drapes.
Mantle of Flames
1st-level Phoenix feature
Starting at 1st level, you can unleash the phoenix fire that blazes within you. As a bonus action, you magically wreathe yourself in swirling fire, as your eyes glow like hot coals. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:
- You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.
- If a creature within 5 feet would deal damage to you, it takes fire damage equal to 1d6 + your Charisma modifier.
- Once per turn, if you would cast a spell or use a cantrip which deals fire damage, you may deal additional fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier to one creature affected by the spell.
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, and regain all uses upon finishing a long rest.
Flames of Life
6th-level Phoenix feature
When you cast a spell that deals fire damage which affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.
Additionally, any time you would use a spell slot to cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you restore hit points to a creature within 30 feet. The amount restored is equal to the slot level + your Charisma modifier.
Explosive Rebirth
6th-level Phoenix feature
Starting at 6th level, the fiery energy within you grows restless and vengeful. In the face of defeat, it surges outward to preserve you in a fiery roar. If you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can draw on the spark of the phoenix. You are instead reduced to 1 hit point and disappear into a cloud of ash and embers, leaving behind a single large, glowing feather. Until the start of your next turn, you cannot take any reactions or move willingly. At the start of your next turn you reappear in a flash of flames. Each creature within 10 feet of you, including yourself, either takes fire damage or restores hit points equal to half your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier. You may choose which creatures get which effect.
If your feather gets moved before the start of your next turn, you appear at it's location when your turn begins.
Once you use this feature once, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
Mantle of the Phoenix
14th-level Phoenix feature
You have enhanced your ability to tap into the powers of the phoenix. While you are using the Mantle of Flames ability, you gain a flying speed of 20 feet and can hover. In addition, your Mantle of Flame, Flames of Life, and Explosive Rebirth class features are upgraded in the following ways:
- With Mantle of Flames, if a creature within 5 feet would deal damage to you, that creature now takes fire damage equal to 2d6 + twice your Charisma modifier.
- If you would deal extra damage by casting a spell which deals fire damage while under the Mantle of Flames effect, that damage is increased by an amount equal to twice your Charisma modifier. This damage increase only applies if the spell slot used is of 1st-level or higher.
- When you would restore hit points with your Flames of Life ability, the amount of hit points restored is now equal to twice the spell's level + your Charisma modifier.
- The amount of damage dealt and hit points restored from Explosive Rebirth becomes twice your sorcerer level + twice your Charisma modifier, and it affects all creatures within 20 feet. Once this ability is used, your Mantle of Flames ability ends.
Form of the Phoenix
18th-level Phoenix feature -
You gain a permanent flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. You have immunity to fire damage. If you would deal fire damage with a spell or ability and roll a 1 or a 2 on the damage dice, you may re-roll that dice and must use the new number, even if it is another 1 or a 2.
