Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

This class is meant to be swapped into. Once a wizard who studies necromancy reaches a certain level in their power (after level 20), they may attempt to gain the Lord of the Dead status. The milestone moment must be decided upon by the DM, but some examples would include accumulating a large army, obtaining a large demiplane, or achieving lichdom.

Master of Necromancy

Beginning when you gain this status at 20th level, any necromancy spell you learn is instantly recorded in your spellbook.

Weaver of Life

You have mastered the ability of siphoning life from the recently deceased. At the end of your turn, if you or any undead under your control have killed one or more creatures, you gain hit points equal to your necromancer level + spell attack modifier. If doing so would grant you more hit points than you can have, you gain temporary hit points equal to the amount of excess hit points received.

Undying Loyalty

Those you raise recognize you as their lord. Undead raised by Animate Dead are now indefinitely under your control.

Undead Hoards

At 6th level, you add the animate dead spell to your spellbook if it is not there already. When you cast animate dead, you can raise an additional number of undead. This number is equal to half your wizard level. You no longer require a corpse or pile of bones to do so; the skeleton or zombie will claw its way up from underground and acts on your next turn.

Whenever you create an undead using a necromancy spell, it has additional benefits:

  • The creature’s hit point maximum is increased by an amount equal to double your wizard level.
  • The creature adds your proficiency bonus to its weapon damage rolls.

Monarch of Death

Your command over the undead has reach such levels that few can deny your influence. When an undead creature finds itself within 30 ft of you, it must make a charisma saving throw against your spell save dc. On a fail, the creature bows to you and submits to your rule. On a success, the creature becomes non-hostile to you if it has a CR below 17, but is not under your influence. It is also immune to this power for 7 days.

In addition to this, you gain the ability to structure your undead more militarily. You may apply ranks to undead under your influence based on their power and loyalty as you choose. Each promotion takes time, but comes with several benefits.

Rank Time to Promote Minimum CR
Soldier Instantaneous N/A
Lieutenant 1 day 3
Captain 3 days 10
General 7 days 17

The ranks dictate how many undead are under their control.

  • Lieutenant: 12 Soldiers
  • Captain: 5 Lieutenants
  • General: 3 Captains

Planar Power

You are most powerful when in your own domain. To be a Lord of the Dead, you must have created a demiplane to keep your army. While in your demiplane, you have unlimited control over your army. However, your power is limited as you venture into other planes.

When you are not in your demiplane, you may retain control over only the following:

  • 12 Soldiers
  • 3 Lieutenants
  • 2 Captains
  • 1 General

This may be overridden by the DM if needed. If you summon or gain control of more undead when on another plane, you must transport them to your plane within 10 minutes or they crumble to dust.
