Base Class: Fighter
Some are born exceptional, others work to become exceptional, and some are made exceptional. You are none of those things, yet you still succeed. You can't help but win, even when the odds are seemingly not in your favor. If the deck was ever stacked against someone, it was done so in your favor.
As a Fated creature, you might have been blessed by a primordial force, or made a deal with a capricious extraplanar creature. Perhaps your parents performed a ritual to bless their firstborn, or the universe is simply using you as a pawn in a larger scheme of balance. You may be fully aware of your potential, or be completely oblivious to it. Regardless of it's origin, or your awareness of it, you always seem to find a path to success, and those closest to you call you the luckiest person alive.
Child of Fate
3rd-level Fated feature
You possess inexplicable luck and good fortune. This is represented by your Fate dice, which are each a d6. You have a number of these dice equal to twice your proficiency bonus, and they fuel various powers of chance you have, which are detailed below.
Some of your powers expend the Fate die they use, as specified in a power’s description, and you can’t use a power if it requires you to use a die when your dice are all expended. You regain all your expended Fate dice when you finish a long rest.
When you reach certain levels in this class, the size of your Fate dice increases: at 5th level (d8), 11th level (d10), and 17th level (d12). The powers below use your Fate dice.
Right Place, Wrong Time. Whenever you are targeted by an attack roll, you can use your reaction to roll 1 Fate die, and reduce the attack roll value by the number rolled, potentially causing it to miss, as the threads of fate are twisted to protect you, reflecting your unnatural luck.
Misfortune. You have an uncanny ability to strike vital spots and find weak points. Once on each of your turns, immediately after you hit a target with an attack and deal damage to it with a weapon, you can expend one Fate die, rolling it and dealing damage to the target equal to the number rolled. The damage type is the same as the weapon used in the attack.
Fortunate Footfalls. Even when you're in trouble, your feet always seem to find the best path. As a bonus action, you can expend one Fate die, rolling it and increasing your movement speed as well as negating opportunity attacks for one turn, by a number of feet equal to 5 times the number rolled. You ignore difficult terrain while this effect is active.
Prodigy of Fate
7th-level Fated feature
You have manifested new ways to subvert the luck of yourself and others.
Falling Dominoes. Beyond all reason, creatures, objects, and even the environment itself seem to align to help soften your fall. As a reaction, you can expend one of your Fate dice to reduce any falling damage by 5 times your Fighter level.
Tough Break. Whenever your force a target to miss their attack with Right Place, Wrong Time, you can roll one of your fate Die. If the value is less than your proficiency bonus, the target trips, falls prone, and cannot make any additional attacks. Creatures that are immune to prone ignore that effect, but are still unable to make additional attacks.
Fate's Adept
10th-level Fated feature
You snatch success from the clutches of failure, as if the universe is willing you to win. You can expend one of your Fate Dice, rolling it and adding the value to an ability check or saving throw. You can do this after the roll, but before learning the result.
Lucky Aura
15th-level Fated feature
Sometimes success means having the right pieces in the right places. You can now extend the benefit of your Right Place, Wrong Time ability to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you.
Boundless Fortune
18th-level Fated feature
The loom of fate weaves eternal, and it's threads continuously wind a path to your success. Whenever you finish a short rest, you can roll one of your Fate Dice, and you regain a number of Fate Dice equal to the value rolled. You do not need any unexpended dice to use this feature, and the amount recovered cannot exceed your maximum.
In addition, whenever you roll initiative, if you have no remaining Fate Dice, you gain one.
