Base Class: Fighter
Weapons break, but your fists... well I guess they can break too. No one can take your fists away from you... well it's harder at least. You know what, sometimes you just like punching stuff. Pugilist fighters focus on mastering unarmed strikes and staying light on their feet. Unlike their monk cousins, pugilists focus on hitting hard without any fancy ki-powered enhancements.
Pugilists aren't the most creative fighters, but they don't need to be; they like punching and they're very good at it. You've found most problems can be solved with your fists and when that doesn't work, well that's why you keep those nerds with the magic sticks around, right?
Brawler
3rd-level Pugilist feature
You are a master of unarmed combat, particularly with your fists. As a result, your unarmed strikes hit harder than normal and know just how to find your opponent's weak points. Your unarmed strikes can deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier on a hit. If you aren’t wielding any weapons or a shield when you make the attack roll, the d6 becomes a d8. This die increases to a d8 and d10, respectively, at level 10.
When making unarmed strikes, you score a critical hit on a 19 or a 20.
At the start of each of your turns, you can deal 1d4 bludgeoning damage to one creature grappled by you. This increases to 1d6 at level 10 and 1d8 at level 18.
Quick Jab
3rd-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 3rd level, you can always find an opening in your opponent's defense. You may make an unarmed strike as a bonus action if you attacked with an unarmed strike during your attack action.
Leg Day
7th-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 7th level, you're unusually quick on your feet to avoid your opponents and make sure your attacks hit. Your movement speed increases by 5 feet when you're not wearing heavy armor. This increases to 10 feet at level 10.
Sting like a Bee
7th-level Pugilist feature
If it can be punched, it can be killed. Starting at 7th level, your unarmed strikes are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances. You receive a +1 to attack and damage rolls for all unarmed strikes.
Punching Barrage
10th-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 10th level, the speed of your fists is legendary. When you make an unarmed strike with a bonus action using your quick jab feature, you can instead make two unarmed strikes. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all uses on a long rest.
Strength Training
10th-level Pugilist feature
Hitting the gym has really been paying off. Starting at 10th level, the damage die for your unarmed strikes increases to 1d8. While you aren't wielding any weapons or holding a shield, your damage die is 1d10. You also gain an extra 5 feet of movement while not wearing heavy armor.
Haymaker
15th-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 15th level, you've mastered the knockout blow. Whenever you hit another creature with an unarmed melee weapon attack, you can use a reaction to attempt to knockout your opponent. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be stunned and prone until the end of your next turn. The difficulty of the save is equal to 8 + your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1) + your proficiency bonus. The difficulty is further increased by 1 for each time you've successfully hit the creature with an unarmed strike this turn.
Float like a Butterfly
15th-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 15th level, your footwork is a thing of beauty. You're able to dodge out of the way of certain area effects. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.
No Bell
18th-level Pugilist feature
You didn't hear no bell! Starting at 18th level, you have the ability to fight-through even the most devastating blows. When you would be reduced to 0 hit points, but not outright killed, you can use a reaction to instead drop to 1 hit point. Once you use this feature, you can not use it again until you finish a long rest.
Heavyweight
18th-level Pugilist feature
Starting at 18th level, you are the peak of physical fitness. You receive an additional +1 to attack and damage rolls, up to +2, with unarmed strikes.
