Base Class: Monk
Penninites see life as a great journey. They live on the road, traveling great distances and performing service wherever they can. They place incredible value on freedom and mobility, and prefer service projects that promote those things, like repairing roads or rooting out highwaymen. You could sum up their mentality thusly: “Leave the road you travel better for those who come after.”
Swift Stride
At 3rd level, your forward motion becomes instinctive. You can activate Step of the Wind without spending a Ki point.
Wary Traveler
Also by 3rd level, you have learned the many dangers of the road and wilderness. You have advantage on Dexterity checks and saving throws made to bypass, mitigate, avoid, or otherwise successfully traverse natural obstacles and hazards, like rockslides, cave-ins, slippery slopes, etc.
Free, Like the Wind
At 6th level, you become almost impossible to pin down. When you use your Step of the Wind feature, you gain the effects of the freedom of movement spell until the beginning of your next turn.
Additionally, when you hit an enemy with one of the attacks granted by Flurry of Blows, you don’t provoke opportunity attacks from that enemy until the beginning of your next turn.
Purity through Service
At 11th level, your soul shines in service to others. You gain the following benefits:
- You can spend 1 ki point to Help someone as a bonus action.
- When you use the Help action, that creature gains a bonus to their attack or check equal to your proficiency bonus.
Reckoner’s Furor
Starting at 17th level, when a friendly creature that you can see takes damage from an attack or spell, you can use your reaction to spend any number of Ki points and enter a meditative state. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:
- Flurry of Blows and Patient Defense can be activated without spending Ki points.
- Your Strength becomes 20, and your carrying capacity is doubled.
- Your speed is not reduced when carrying or dragging another creature.
- Your unarmed strikes deal additional force damage equal to the number of Ki points you spent when you activated this ability.
Once you have used this feature, you must complete a long rest before using it again.
