Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards of the College of Lies know how to deceive whoever they meet. Using their silver tongues to jump from one lie to the next without missing a beat. Whether acting as if they  are an emissary of a foreign land to get the favor of a royal court, or tricking officials that they are a higher ranking member of the guard to get out of trouble, these bards use their skills of deception to leave others convinced they are old friends or prestigious members of the realm. When the facade ends, folks rarely realize they have been deceived until the bard is long gone. At some point people might find themselves questioning what they've been told to be true, but these bards are so good at what they do that it's hard to decipher the fact from the fiction.

These bards are sought after by all types of people for their skills in subterfuge, but are terribly hard to find. Only a few of the bard's most trusted friends know their true story, because of this fact, the college’s members meet yearly to exchange techniques they've learned to perfect their art and update where they can be reached for potential work.

Bards that are members of the College of Lies have a set of tenants that every bard adheres to:

  • Be truthful to other members.
  • Never give away a fellow bard's true information.
  • Always share your techniques with other members.
  • Contact other members directly before referring them for work.

Bonus Proficiency

When you join the College of Lies at 3rd level, if you are not already, you gain proficiency in the deception skill. Additionally, you gain expertise in deception.

Doubt

Also at 3rd level, you learn how to use your skills of deception to confuse an enemy into temporarily thinking you are not a threat, sapping its confidence that you are its enemy. When a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you attempts to target you with an attack, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration, to make that creature choose a new target. If there are no targets that it can attack it does not use its attack action. The creature is immune if it can’t hear you or if it’s immune to being charmed.

Mantle of Lies

You have learned to weave your lies and mannerisms into a highly believable facade. You can expend one use of your bardic inspiration to roll the dice and add that number to a deception or persuasion check you or an ally makes, or you can expend one use of your bardic inspiration to roll the dice and subtract that number from an insight check a creature uses to determine a lie told by you or an ally.

Bardic Recovery

During a short rest you can recover half of your bardic inspiration dice (rounded down). You can not use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Master Deceiver

You can charm creatures immune to charm, that creature has advantage on any saving throws to being charmed. This also allows you to use Doubt on creatures immune to charm.

You can cast friends the spell targets up to 3 creatures within 30 feet of each other, the duration of the spell is 1 hour, and the creatures don't know they were charmed. After you cast this spell you cannot cast it again until you take a long rest. (This spell can only be cast this way one time before a long rest using this feature, casting friends any additional times has the spell's normal effect.)

You can cast Charm Person as a 3rd level spell and the creatures don't know they were charmed. Casting Charm Person does not require a spell slot. After you cast this spell  you can not cast it again until you take a long rest. (This spell can only be cast this way one time before a long rest using this feature, casting charm person any additional times has the spell's normal effect.)
