Base Class: Ranger
The tribes of the Guðir Haust have lived among the peaks of the mountain range for generations. Forced here after a war with the nation Gu'Denviir for more fertile lands at the base of the range. Their only remaining defense against the beasts of the peaks are the Cliff Wardens. Trapped among the peaks thanks to an ocean on one side and Gu'Denviir on all other sides. The tribes of the Guðir Haust have no choice but to quarry and mine out the mountains just so they can get what they need to survive (from Gu'Denviir). Things like wood and some forms of fruits and vegetables. Members of this ancient and sacred conclave have trained for years to protect their clan from any threat... Especially from the Gu'Denviir.
Ok guys this is the rough draft for a new subclass I am making for rangers in my WIP setting for an upcoming campaign. Feedback on how i can improve/better balance this class is not only appreciated but also respectfully requested.
*Any names of abilities contained within this class are strictly WIP and subject to change if you have a suggestion for on such name feel free to let me know.
Cliff Warden Magic
3rd-level Cliff Warden feature
You learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Cliff Warden Spells table. Each spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.

| RANGER LEVEL | SPELLS |
|---|---|
| 3rd | enhance ability |
| 5th | ice knife |
| 9th | sleet storm |
| 13th | storm sphere |
| 17th | wall of stone |
Heart of Ice
Cliff Wardens spend long hours every day training to endure the harsh environments of their home. With the aid of their magic they have developed a ritual to further these efforts. You no longer suffer the effects of cold climates and you have resistance to cold damage.
Home in the Peaks
3rd -level Cliff Warden Feature
As part of your training you have spent long hours learning to scale any obstacle quickly and efficiently. Your climb speed is equal to your walking speed.
Trained Stalker
Cliff Wardens are masters of ambush tactics. And train to become adapt at delivering accurate shots against their enemies. Starting at 7th level, once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack roll that you have advantage on, or if an ally is in melee with you add 1d8 to the damage. When you reach 11th level in this class, the extra damage increases to 2d8.
One With the Wind
Beginning at 11th level, you gather the winds around you to make unnaturally powerful leaps. When you move at least 15ft in a straight line you may use an action to make a long jump of 60ft or a high jump of 40ft. In addition you have learned how to fight even in the strongest of winds. Strong winds (such as those caused by "Gust of Wind") do not impose disadvantage on your ranged attacks.
If you are hit with a ranged weapon attack you may use your reaction to attempt to redirect the attack. Roll a d10 plus one half Ranger level rounded down. Reduce the damage you take by an amount equal to what you roll. If you reduce the damage to 0 you may attempt to send it back at the attacker. Roll a ranged spell attack against the attacker. If you hit the target take 1d8 plus Wisdom modifier of whatever damage the weapon deals.
Master of the Peaks
Your mastery of the winds and ice have reached their peak. Once per turn you may have a ranged attack cause one of the following:
Entrapment in Ice: When you choose this option you draw your bow and fire an arrow made of pure ice. When you hit with this attack the target must make a dexterity save versus your spell save DC or become restrained until the start of your next turn, as their lower body becomes encased in ice. In addition the target takes 2d6 cold damage
Wind Arrow: When you choose this option you draw back your bow and fire an arrow of wind. When you hit with this attack the target must make a strength save versus your spell save DC or be moved 15ft in a direction of your choice. In addition the target takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage (this counts as magical damage).

Posted Jun 17, 2023Thanks to the advice of Zoren_Demos, I have updated the Cliff Warden to include another feature at 3rd level so it doesn't feel as of it falls short.
