Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

A paladin who follows the Oath of the Earthwarden is a stalwart champion of nature and the earth, wielding divine powers granted by their deep connection to an earth deity. They dedicate themselves to maintaining the delicate balance of the natural world and protecting it from threats that seek to desecrate or exploit it. These paladins are often found in untamed wilderness, ancient forests, and sacred groves, where they stand as guardians and advocates for the earth.

Through their unwavering commitment to balance, an Earthwarden strives to preserve the harmony between civilization and nature. They actively work to prevent the encroachment of cities and industries upon untouched lands, negotiating for sustainable development and seeking alternatives to destruction. They mediate conflicts between communities and the natural world, urging mutual respect and understanding.

Tenets of the Earthwarden

The tenets of the Oath of the Earthwarden hold a paladin to a high standard of protection of nature:

1. Balance: Seek harmony and maintain the natural balance of the earth. Uphold the principles of growth, stability, and preservation.

2. Guardianship: Protect the land from corruption and desecration. Be the shield that safeguards the earth and its creatures.

3. Stability: Stand firm like the mountains and unyielding like the bedrock. Bring stability to chaos and inspire others with your unwavering resolve.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of the Earthwarden Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.

Oath of the Earthwarden Spells

You gain access to the following spells at the paladin levels indicated:

3rd level: Entangle, Earth Tremor

5th level: Spike Growth, Maximilian's Earthen Grasp

9th level: Erupting Earth, Stone Shape

13th level: Grasping Vine, Stone Skin

17th level: Bones of the Earth, Transmute Rock

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Emissary of Nature. You can use your Channel Divinity to augment your connection to the earth with divine power. As a bonus action, you grant yourself a +5 bonus to Intelligence (Nature) checks for the next 10 minutes.

Earthen Rebuke. Starting at 3rd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to channel the power of the earth to rebuke your foes. As an action, you can present your holy symbol and invoke the strength of your earth deity. Choose a creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw or be restrained by tendrils of earth for 1 minute. The restrained creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Earthen Fortification

At 7th level, you gain the ability to bolster the defenses of your allies. As a bonus action, you can choose a number of willing creatures within 30 feet of you (including yourself) up to your Charisma modifier. The chosen creatures gain temporary hit points equal to your Paladin level, and their movement speed is unaffected by difficult terrain until the start of your next turn.

Stoneheart

At 15th level, your connection to the earth becomes unyielding, granting you extraordinary resilience. You have resistance to all damage except psychic damage as long as you are conscious.

Additionally, when you die your body will begin to turn to stone taking 1 year to complete this transformation.

Terraquake

At 20th level, you can unleash the true might of the earth. As an action, you cause a massive upheaval in the ground in a 60-foot radius centered on yourself. All creatures in the area must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 8d10 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn't knocked prone. Structures and objects in the area also take damage and are subject to collapse.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
