Monk
Base Class: Monk

Moving with mesmerising flow, the Ribbon Dancer injects their ki into an item like a ribbon, rope, chain, bandage, or something similar, telekinetically manipulating it and forming it into various shapes and weapons. They are adept in versatility, and as they improve their craft, they become so acquainted with their weapon that they can change its form at a moment's notice, reacting to any situation.

Ribbon Dance

3rd-level Way of the Ribbon Dance feature

Beginning when you choose this feature at 3rd level, you are a skilled dancer, both with and without your ribbons. You gain proficiency in Charisma (Performance) and Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks.

Additionally, you can inject a small amount of Ki into a ribbon, rope, bandage, chain or other such similar item, allowing you to manipulate it to perform harmless effects like stiffening, swirling around, carrying objects (as much as you can carry) or other such sensory effects. This doesn’t use up enough ki to cost any points. You can also use an Attack to slash out with the ribbons, which act as a monk weapon, dealing 1d4 slashing damage up to 10 feet away. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the martial arts column of the monk table. You can choose to spend a ki point to attack with this ability twice as a bonus action after an unarmed strike, monk weapon strike or another ribbon slash.

Lash Out

6th-level Way of the Ribbon Dance feature

Starting at 6th level, if you or a friendly creature is attacked by an enemy within 30 feet of you, hit or miss, you can react in rage. You jump to a point 10 feet away from the enemy (whether you are closer or further than this is irrelevant) and lash out with your ribbons, spending 2 ki points and dealing 2d8 slashing damage.

Mesmerising Dance

11th-level Way of the Ribbon Dance feature

Beginning at 11th level, you can perform a dance with your ribbons, and create one of two effects based on the movements and steps which you use. You can dance again after a short or long rest.

  • Enemies who can see you must make a wisdom saving throw, or become charmed by you.
  • Enemies who can see you must make a wisdom saving throw, or become frightened of you.

Swirling Dance

17th-level Way of the Ribbon Dance feature

At 17th level, you can perform a swirling dance, spinning around with your ribbons and slashing at all creatures around you up to 30 feet away. This costs 8 ki points, and creatures hit by it must make a dexterity saving throw. On a fail, they take 8d10 slashing damage. On a success, they take half of that.
