Base Class: Barbarian
Those who choose the Path of the Chain Warrior honor their ancestors who had evolved and solved the age-old problem that flying and ranged opponents present to Barbarians. Barbarians that choose this past are granted knowledge and powers from their ancestors who have evolved to give their kind a special edge in battle. Early Barbarians had resorted to throwing Greatswords through the air while fighting flying combatants, but this proved to be very ineffective and resulted in a lot of fetching and punching. They realized by attaching a chain to the pommel of their weapon they could throw the weapon and reel it back in effectively combating distanced enemies. Eventually more chain maneuvers were discovered such as tripping, restraining, and pulling using the chained weaponry. This new breed of Barbarian quickly became a force to be reckoned with. They would have chaining ceremonies were they bonded themselves to their weapons through the chain truly becoming one. Recent Barbarians who choose this path are given these powers through their rage and should never be underestimated. Beware the brawn who use their brain.
Chained
Starting at 3rd level, when you enter a rage a magical chain releases from within you curling and wrapping around your forearm and attaching to your weapons pommel. This grants any Simple or Martial weapon the thrown property of up to 30 feet. You can pull the weapon back into the wielders hand immediately after it is used to make a ranged attack. This ranged attack can only be used once per turn regardless of how many attacks per action you have.
Chained Maneuvers
Beginning at 6th level, you learn new maneuvers to be used in combat. After making a successful melee or ranged attack with your chained weapon you can immediately use your bonus action to perform one of the listed maneuvers.
Maneuvers. You learn the chained maneuvers, which are detailed under “Maneuvers” below. These maneuvers further enhance an attack in some way. You can use only one maneuver per attack.
You gain two more uses of these maneuvers at 10th level and again at 14th level.
Saving Throws. Some of your maneuvers require your target to make a saving throw to resist the maneuver’s effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows:
Maneuver Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength
Maneuvers
The maneuvers are presented below.
Grapple
You can attempt to wrap a Large or smaller enemy with your chain making them immobile. You must make a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). If you succeed, you subject the target to the grappled condition. A grappled creature can use its action to escape. To do so, it must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check.
Heave
You can attempt to pull an enemy closer to you or pull an enemy back onto the ground if the are flying or levitating. Your target must make a Strength Saving Throw against your DC. If the target fails it is then pulled 15 feet towards you and if possible dragged to the ground.
Trip
You can attempt to trip up an opponent wrapping your chains around their legs. Your target must make a Dexterity Saving Throw against your DC. If the target fails they are knocked prone.
Cleaving Chain
Beginning at 10th level, you learn a new way to effectively use your chain weapon. Using your full attack action you can make an attack on any number of creatures within 10 feet of you by swing your chained weapon around your immediate area. You must make a separate attack roll against each creature within 10 feet of you. This special attack replaces your attack action.
This ability can only be used 2 times per long rest.
Chain Mail
Starting at 14th level, you can use a bonus action while raging to have the chains consume you. The chains wrap and curl around your arms and torso creating an extra layer of protection. This increases your AC by your Strength Modifier. The chains last for 10 minutes or until your rage ends.
This ability can only be used once per long rest.
