Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Your patron is a fearsome creature of the underworld whose power lies in curses and illnesses. A Reviled patron may be a demon of plague or death, a vampire who employs a servant to sow their sickness further still, or a trickster who specializes in poisons and hexes. For motivation, this being can range from those who proudly uphold and enforce a death for all living beings, to sickening tormentors whose diseases bring only blight and suffering.

(SO DISCLAIMER, I am looking for feedback on this class and it is a work in progress as I am currently testing it myself. Notably, I am not willing to rename the class features whatsoever. The design was extremely messy and started from both the very bottom and the very top, with much sifting around afterwards. Specifically, Brave Murder Day has been very hard to pin down. The idea is to have the player become an unstoppable slasher villain as they hunt down the target of their curse. I've struggled with balancing the requirements as a result, since it's basically a save-or-die that becomes thematically lame when a save is explicitly attached to it.)

The Itch

At 1st level, when you make a pact with The Reviled, you can call upon a miasma to sicken your foes. As an action, choose a number of creatures that you can see within 30 feet equal to your Charisma modifier. Each target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC or become immobile until your next turn as a burning itch courses across its whole body. Attacks made against afflicted creatures have advantage and snap them out of their stupor. An unaffected creature can also use an action to shake an ally out of this state.

Once you use this feature you must complete a long rest before using it again.

Cursed Velvet Thorns

At 6th level, you gain the ability to torment those who dare stand against your patron with a malignant curse. As an action, you can afflict a creature within 30 feet that you can see with your Velvet Thorns, which dig into their flesh and cause searing pain. That creature makes a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 3d4 necrotic and 1d4 piercing damage on a failed save or half as much on a success. Until they move 120 feet away from you or use a remove curse effect, the creature subtracts a number equal to the amount of piercing damage they took this way from each skill check, attack roll and saving throw.

At 12th level, the damage dealt by Velvet Thorns increases to 3d6 necrotic and 1d6 piercing. At 20th level, the damage increases to 3d8 necrotic and 1d8 piercing.

Once you afflict a target with this feature you must complete a long rest before doing so again.

Vile Bereavement

At 10th level, the foul energies coursing through your body grant you resistance to poison damage and immunity to disease.

In addition, when you cast a spell or use a class feature that:

  • Has a range further than 5 feet
  • Targets a single creature
  • Forces that creature to make an immediate saving throw

You can cast it using a touch range instead by laying your profane hands on the creature instead of casting normally. When you do so, that creature makes that one saving throw with disadvantage.

Brave Murder Day

At 14th level, you can temporarily embody your patron’s pure death-dealing power by placing an ultimate curse on a foe. You must meet them in person, seeing their face and them seeing yours, then destroy an effigy you create from a part of their body (strands of hair, drops of blood, etc.) within 24 hours of the meeting. Once you do this, the target becomes aware that its death is impending and feels increasing dread as you get closer to it. The curse expires after a number of hours equal to your Charisma modifier. You gain the following benefits while you have a marked target, hereby referred to as your “victim”:

  • Your take on the appearance of an “angel of death” whose looks are inspired by your patron, concealing your identity until you have killed your victim
  • When you can sense your victim and you move towards them, you can make your current movement speed equal to their current movement speed +5 feet
  • Gain advantage on saving throws you make against your victim’s spells and abilities
  • Gain advantage Strength (Athletics) checks to grapple your victim
  • Gain advantage on attack rolls against your victim
  • When you damage your victim with any attack, add your Charisma modifier to your damage roll
  • When you roll an 18, 19 or 20 on an attack roll against your victim, the attack critically strikes
  • When you critically strike your victim and reduce them to below one third of their hit point maximum, your corrosive powers flow into them and kill them outright

After the moment you mark your victim, you must wait 72 hours before using this feature again.
