Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Yours is a path drenched in blood. While others choose lives of petty thievery, vile trickery, or courtly intrigue, you have chosen to hone your skills as a ruthless combatant. Cold-blooded murderers, mercenaries, marauders, raiders, and other brutish scoundrels typically embrace the ways of this brutal archetype, but so do rogues who fancy themselves bouncers, bounty hunters, gladiators, and adventurers. While other roguish archetypes employ cunning, trickery and deceit in more subtle forms, you instead learn skills which improve your martial knowledge, use of strength, and endurance in prolonged combat.

Ruthless Attacker

Beginning at 3rd level, your expertise with heavier weapons transforms your Sneak Attack feature into a Ruthless Attack. This adaptation activates when you wield a melee weapon lacking the finesse property; otherwise, your attack retains most of the characteristics of a standard Sneak Attack. Whether using Sneak Attack or Ruthless Attack, the conditions and benefits depend on your chosen weapon.

Ruthless Attack

Once per turn, unless otherwise stated, when you hit a creature with a melee weapon Attack using your Strength, you can deal additional damage. This extra damage starts as 1d4 and scales in proportion to the 1d6 of the Rogue's Sneak Attack progression table.

You don't need advantage on the attack roll to apply this extra damage if:

  • You're wielding a melee weapon without the finesse property.
  • No other enemy is within 5 feet of you.
  • You aren't at a disadvantage for the attack roll.

Martial Prowess

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons.

In addition, when you advance to 5th Level, you gain Extra Attack.

Extra Attack

Beginning at 5th Level, you can Attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on Your Turn.

Ruthless Onslaught

Starting at 9th level, your combat prowess allows you to chain together a cascade of vicious blows in rapid succession. When you land a Ruthless Attack, roll a d6:

On a 5-6, your next successful Attack within the same turn becomes a Ruthless Onslaught; a half-damage Ruthless Attack. This subsequent attack deals damage equal to half of the initial Ruthless Attack's damage roll, rounded up. You can continue this chain of attacks on Your Turn, rolling the d6 after each successful strike. The chain ends when you fail to roll a 5 or 6, and no further attacks this turn can qualify to become a Ruthless Onslaught.

If wielding a two-handed melee weapon lacking the special or the reach property, or dual wielding weapons without the finesse property, the required d6 roll succeeds on a 4-6.

If wielding a versatile melee weapon and not dual wielding, the required d6 roll extends to a 3-6.

For each successful Ruthless Onslaught in the chain, you add your weapon's damage roll and Strength modifier to the halved Ruthless Attack damage.

Roughneck

Your many scars have given you an instinct for avoiding incoming damage, as well as a leathery layer of added protection. Starting at 13th level, you may take the Dodge action as a bonus action a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (a minimum of once). You regain all of your expended uses of this feature when you finish a long rest.

Additionally, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that you take from nonmagical attacks is reduced by an amount equal to your Constitution modifier.

Whirling Dervish

Upon reaching 17th level, your martial brutality reaches new heights. You are now capable of unleashing a flurry of blows rivaled only by seasoned fighters and monks.

When you take the Attack action, you can forgo your reaction for the next round to make one additional melee weapon Attack on Your Turn.

Furthermore, once on Your Turn, if you use your bonus action to make an Attack, such as the one granted to you when dual wielding, you can make one more Attack as another bonus action.
