Base Class: Ranger
Soldiers are disciplined warriors who have honed their skills on the battlefield, adapting to the ever-changing tides of war. They are masters of strategy and adaptability, able to overcome any challenge the battlefield throws at them. Whether on the front lines or in the shadows, Soldiers excel at their chosen role, drawing strength from their experiences in war.
Tactical Prowess
At 3rd level, you have learned to apply your military training to the challenges of the wilderness and the chaos of combat.
You gain the following features:
- Combat Strategy: You have advantage on initiative rolls. Additionally, you can use your bonus action on your turn to grant advantage on the next attack roll made by you or an ally within 10 feet of you. This advantage must be used before the start of your next turn. This can only be used once per combat.
- Adaptive Tactics: When you make a Wisdom (Survival) check to track creatures or a Wisdom (Perception) check to find hidden objects or creatures, you can add your proficiency bonus twice instead of once.
Battlefield Expertise
At 7th level, your experience on the battlefield has made you an expert in adapting to different combat situations.
You gain the following features:
- Battlefield Analysis: As an action, you can assess the battlefield and communicate your findings to your allies. Until the start of your next turn, your allies gain a bonus to their attack rolls and damage rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1) when attacking creatures you have designated as your favored enemies.
- Tactical Retreat: When you take the Disengage action, your movement speed is doubled for the remainder of your turn, and you can move through the space of hostile creatures without provoking opportunity attacks.
Battle Tactics
At 11th level, you have honed your battlefield tactics to a razor's edge.
You gain the following features:
- Lead the Charge: As a bonus action on your turn, you can choose one friendly creature you can see within 30 feet of you. That creature can use its reaction to make a melee attack against a target of your choice within its reach.
- Sacrificial Defense: As a reaction when an ally within 10 feet of you would be hit by an attack, you can throw yourself in harm's way. You take the damage from the attack instead of the targeted ally, provided you are not incapacitated or already using this feature. The damage you take is reduced by an amount equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
War Veteran
At 15th level, your experience as a soldier has reached its pinnacle.
You gain the following abilities:
- Warlord's Presence: Your mere presence on the battlefield inspires your allies. As a bonus action, you can grant all friendly creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you advantage on their next attack roll or saving throw. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
- Lead by Example: When you use Combat Strategy to grant advantage on an attack roll, you can choose two allies within 30 feet of you instead of one. Additionally, the advantage granted by Combat Strategy now also applies to saving throws until the start of your next turn.

Posted Jul 9, 2024Idk how on earth this ended up in my Homebrew as I've never even accessed this page before. I assumed it was a new subclass from one of my DM's books.
That said, this feels like a pretty good subclass to mix in with a Fighter.
Advantage on Initiative rolls for a fighter is always good, especially for me cause I'm running a Rune Knight. Advantage on attack rolls as a polearm master fighter- i.e. 3 attacks per turn if I'm using my bonus action- is also super nice- or giving advantage to my party's paladin to get those sweet crit smites.
Idk about running it as your only class, but it's definitely a cool option I'll be asking my DM about.
