Base Class: Barbarian
The rage of a Hellfury Barbarian runs burning hot, and they seek only to drown their enemies in fire, fury, and fright. Hellfury Barbarians have seen hell, either figuratively or literally, and it has seared them raw. They act only to bring the rage and fear they felt down upon their foes.
Inspired by Lacromosa's Hellfire Knight.
Flaming Edge
3rd-Level Path of the Hellfury Feature
The heat of your rage sears your enemies indiscriminately. While raging you gain resistance to fire damage, and when you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you deal bonus fire damage equal to your rage damage bonus.
Hellfire Plague
3rd-Level Path of the Hellfury Feature
Whenever you deal fire damage to a creature while you are raging, it is left with a seed of fiendish energy. At the end of the creature's next turn the seed detonates, forcing the creature and all other creatures with 5 feet of it to make a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, taking 2d4 necrotic damage on a failure or half as much on a success. A creature can carry only one seed within it at a time.
Hell's Blessings
6th-Level Path of the Hellfury Feature
You gain a greater affinity with your hellfire, granting you a measure of control even as it spreads throughout you. Whenever you or one of your allies would take damage from your hellfire plague feature, they instead gain temporary hit points equal to 1 + your Constitution modifier. These temporary hit points disappear when your rage ends.
In addition, your hellfire begins to sear you from the inside out. Your skin becomes blackened and rough like brunt leather, and the aura of your hellfire can be sensed even while you aren't raging, allowing you to use your Constitution modifier in place of your Charisma modifier when making Intimidation checks.
Hell Hath No Fury
10th-Level Path of the Hellfury Feature
You have mastered the tides of hellfire that accompany your rage -allowing you to release and reclaim them with explosive force. As an action you can end your rage, simultaneously expelling a wave of hellfire away from you. All creatures within 20 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your Proficiency + your Constitution modifier. They take 4d6 fire damage plus your barbarian level as necrotic damage on a failure, or only the necrotic damage on a success.
In addition, if your explosion reduces a creature to 0 hit points, then you can use your reaction to consume the seed of hellfire that would have been left in it and re-ignite your rage. This re-activation of your rage is as if you had never ended it and retains the original duration of your rage. This re-activation does not consume a use of your rage feature.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Anger Enflamed
14th-Level Path of the Hellfury Feature
You've achieved dominion over the seeds of your rage, forcing them to root where before they were simply destroyed. When you leave a seed of hellfire within a creature with your Hellfire Plague feature, you can command the seed to sprout, rather than detonate. Your target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier), allowing the seed to take root within it for 1 minute on a failure. While growing within a creature the seed leeches their vitality and imposes the following effects on its host as it experiences the worst parts of your rage and recklessness:
- The creature cannot cast spells or concentrate on them.
- Attack rolls made against the creature have advantage.
- The creature cannot regain hit points.
The creature can remake the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect and withering the seed on a success. You can use this feature 3 times per long rest.
In addition, your body has become fully adapted to the well-fed flame within you, and its baleful glow can be seen in your chest and behind your eyes. With the coalescence of your flame's might, both fire and necrotic damage you deal ignores resistance.
