Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Magic flows in your veins from ancestors long ago, though initially you had been locked from these powers, you have found an alternate way to forge your path. Your magic is housed within the runes you craft, catalysts for you and your allies to turn the tides of battles. The art of runecrafting has proven versatile in any situation; whether it be allowing an ally rogue to teleport out of danger, or a fighter the ability to use a fireball in a pinch. Your ability to create magical runes allow you to be more versatile and free form with your magic, providing buffs and support to your allies or being a force to be reckoned with in battle.

Runic Knowledge

With your knowledge of runecraft, you gain proficiency with Mason's Tools. Additionally, you understand the language of the Giants, and gain proficiency with Intelligence (Arcana).

Inscribe

1st-level Rune Caster feature

You can inscribe runes on stones or flat surfaces whenever you cast a spell at 1st level or higher. In combat, this requires an action and the use of a spell slot at the level the spell is being cast. The runes may be invoked using your spell modifiers and DC. If the spell requires concentration, it is maintained by you. The rune may be used by any creature if they use their free item interaction and the action that is tied to the spell inscribed on the rune. The number of runes that you can inscribe are equal to your proficiency level, and they exist until they are used or until your next long rest.

You may also create “triggers”, provided you use the appropriate spell slots. Inscribing spells this way may take additional time depending on the level of the spell and/or size of the object. The spell stored is cast as your reaction, if you have multiple runes created this way and their triggers are met, you may choose one of them to cast.

Examples of triggers could be:

  • Invoke rune when a creature comes within 10ft.
  • Invoke rune when a Thunderwave spell is cast.
  • Invoke rune when I say, "Sweet roll."

Written in Stone

6th-level Rune Caster feature

You have discovered how to increase the complexity of your craft; you can now add metamagic to your runes. Using the metamagic you know when creating a rune, you allow the user of the rune to gain the effects. You can also inscribe your runes into weapons or items. If a weapon attack is used, the user can invoke the spell as well using your spellcasting modifier and DC. For as long as a spell is inscribed on a weapon, it is counted as a magic weapon. Once the spell is used however, the magic fades.

Additionally, if you have feats that affect your spells, such as Elemental Adept or Spell Sniper, they are applied to your runes as if you cast them.

Blessing of the Weave

14th-level Rune Caster feature

Your knowledge of your runes have expanded to further assist others. Your runes may now alternately be used to allow your magical essence to flow into the user. Instead of invoking the rune to cast the spell inside, they can be used to heal themselves 1d6 per spell level of the rune. Using a rune this way depletes the spell inside and may no longer be used to cast the spell stored.

Through experience, you have come to understand the runes on a deeper level. Whenever you make an Intelligence (Arcana) roll to decipher runes, your proficiency is doubled for this roll.

Runic Burst

18th-level Rune Caster feature

You can use a bonus action to release the magic stored in one of your runes. Each creature of your choice in a 20ft radius of the rune gets a bonus to AC equal to half the spell level, and a bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls equal to the spell level of the spell store in the rune. The creature’s damage also ignores resistances. This bonus lasts until the start of your next turn. Using this feature does not destroy the rune, however the ability to use this feature again replenishes at next dawn.
