Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Enlightenment swears a paladin to never-ending quest to pursue, obtain, distribute, and protect knowledge of all kinds. These paladins might take this oath to scour the world in search of lost truths of forgotten civilizations or place themselves in service to any place that values knowledge, including royal courts, great libraries, archaeological expeditions, or even orders of spies. A culture might elect a warrior to take this oath in order to keep their oral history and philosophies alive to pass it on to the next generation. Equally important to seeking knowledge, is know what knowledge can bring unnecessary unrest or ruin. A paladin who swears this oath can fulfill it by taking a life-long vow to protect a text of dangerous magic or tome of dark power to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands, dictating what kinds of knowledge the world is ready for. At worst, these protectors can be seen as demeaning to those outside their order or organization the serve. At their best, these paladins can help usher in golden ages of civilizations.

Channel Divinity

At 3rd level, you gain two Channel Divinity options:

Enlightening Smite. You imbue your Divine Smite with a stream of powerful divination magic, granting you intimate knowledge of your enemy. When you use your Divine Smite feature, you can use your Channel Divinity as a reaction to deal a number of d6s of extra psychic damage to the target equal to your proficiency modifier. When you do, you learn each of its damage vulnerabilities, damage resistances, damage immunities, and condition immunities. Additionally, you magically learn one fact or secret (determined by the DM) about the creature that is not related to these traits.

Invoke Expertise. As an action, you harness holy power to channel the skill and guidance of a spirit or divine entity to empower one of your skills. Choose one of your skill or tool proficiencies. For the next 10 minutes, you gain expertise with that chosen skill or tool.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of Devotion Spells

Aura of Guidance

Starting at 7th level, while you aren't incapacitated, your mere presence infuses the minds around with a touch of divine aid. When you or a friendly creature within 10 feet makes an ability check, you can spend your reaction to grant the benefits of the guidance spell to that roll.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Limited Precognition

By 15th level, your dedication to truth and knowledge has opened your mind, granting you momentary glimpses of outcomes where your enemy succeeds and fails. A gentle application of divine power ensures you cause your enemies to drift towards failure in these outcomes. When you finish a short or long rest, roll a d10, called a precognition die, and record the result. As a reaction, you can expend a precognition die result and subtract it from an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw made by an enemy you can see within 60 feet, potentially causing them to miss or fail. You lose any unspent precognition die result when you take a short or long rest.

Font of the Opened Mind

At 20th level, your ability to divine the movements of your enemies and manipulate their fate becomes unparalleled. When you finish a long rest and roll a precognition die for your Limited Precognition feature, you instead roll a number of precognition dice equal to your Charisma modifier and record each result to use with that feature. You lose any unspent precognition die result when you take a short or long rest.
