Base Class: Barbarian
For some the rage is a primal surge of power and might, for you it is the devoted fury of a defender and shield. The path of the shield bearer is taken by those who have vowed to protect liege or friend against all comers. They stand as the bulwark at the front lines, risking their own safety for that of their allies.
Outta My Way!
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, whenever you enter a rage while wielding a shield you may move up to half your movement speed in a straight line, passing through creatures no more than one size larger than you and non-secured objects not counting them as difficult terrain as you move. All creatures you pass through in this way must make a strength saving throw with DC equal to 8 + your prof. bonus + your CON mod or be knocked prone and take 2d8 + STR bludgeoning damage Additionally, when you make an attack with a shield you are wearing as an improvised weapon, you may add your prof. bonus to the attack roll and the attack deals 1d8 + STR damage rather than the usual 1d4
Get Down!
Beginning at 6th level you may choose to forego your own safety to be a fierce bulwark for your allies. When you choose to activate your Reckless Attack while wearing a shield, you may choose instead to use a Reckless Defense. Rather than gaining advantage on all your attacks you may choose a number of creatures within a 10ft radius of you up to half your prof. bonus rounded down, all attacks against them have disadvantage and they may add your shield's AC bonus to DEX saving throws
In addition, your improvised attacks made with a shield are considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity to non-magical damage.
Hold the Line!:
While your Reckless Defense is active (even if there are no target allies) creatures provoke attacks of opportunity using your shield when they enter or leave the radius. In Addition while raging, you can't be forced to move or knocked prone, and when you hit a creature with an opportunity attack, the creature's speed becomes 0 for the rest of the turn.
Not On My Watch!
Starting at 14th level when an ally affected by your Reckless Defense is attacked by a creature within 10ft of you, you may use your reaction to make an attack of opportunity against that creature using your shield. If the triggering attack misses your ally you may make your attack at advantage.
