Base Class: Sorcerer
Sorcerers of the Pestilence bloodline emerge from communities beset by terrible, often magical, illnesses.
Unlike other bloodlines, the age at which this type of power emerges can range wildly and is often set off when the sorcerer falls ill later in life, occasionally causing outbreaks in the people around them. This is an indicator of the difficulty that the sorcerer experiences in keeping control of their abilities.
When their abilities emerge, they may develop a unique quirk.
| d6 | Unique Quirk |
|---|---|
| 1 | Whenever you cast a spell, black courses through your veins as though you had sepsis. |
| 2 | Your nose is always running. |
| 3 | You carry around an odor of sickness. |
| 4 | You have no sense of taste. |
| 5 | The sick are unusually drawn to you. |
| 6 | Every time you cast a spell, you feel the urge to spit on the ground. |
Innoculated
Starting at first level, you gain resistance to poison damage. You also deal an additional 1d4 Poison damage whenever you deal Poison damage. This increases by 1d4 at 5th (2d4), 11th (3d4) and 17th level (4d4).
Virulence
Starting at 1st Level, as a bonus action you can touch the corpse of a creature killed recently. When you do, the body begins to swell and explodes. Creatures within a 10ft radius must pass a Constitution saving throw equal to your spell save DC or take 1d6 Poison damage. This damage increases by 1d6 at 5th Level (2d6), 11th Level (3d6) and 17th Level (4d6). You can only do this a number of times per long rest equivalent to your Proficiency modifier.
Additionally, you can expend one use of this feature to taint a water source or a food supply, causing all creatures who consume from it to suffer disadvantage on Charisma and Constitution saving throws.
Pre-existing Condition
At 6th Level, you can spend two sorcery points to heal a target creature to full HP. When you do this, you also inflict half the amount healed to your own HP and take on any injuries or illnesses the target creature had prior to using this feature.
Sympathy for the Suffering
Starting at 6th Level, you can cause a series of visible symptoms to occur in a willing creature. They gain advantage on Persuasion, Intimidation and Deception checks that have to do with disease, however a failed check results in the target of the check becoming hostile or running in fear. You can use this feature once per long rest.
Outbreak
Starting at 14th Level, if you have used your Virulence feature, whenever you cast a spell that deals poison or necrotic damage, roll 1d20. If the result is a 20, a diseased cloud is expelled from either you or the target of the spell. Creatures within 5 feet of you or the target must pass a Constitution saving throw equal to or higher than your spell save DC or contract a disease. The type of disease is determined by rolling on the Pestilence Sorcerer Disease Table:
| d12 | Disease | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Beggars' Pox | The creature becomes weak and covered in small lesions. Reduce the creature's number of available hit dice by 1d4 |
| 2 | Bloodswell | The creature's veins swell and it becomes prone to bleeding. Take an additional 1d4 piercing damage after recieving bludgeoning, slashing or piercing damage from another source |
| 3 | Bonebreak Fever | The creature's bones become brittle. Disadvantage on Strength saving throws, critical hits deal an additional 1d6 bludgeoning damage |
| 4 | Cackle Fever | The creature falls into feverish delirium. Disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and concentration checks for spells |
| 5 | Devlin's Craving | The creature experiences an unending hunger and hallucinations. Disadvantage on saving throws against effects that cause fear or confusion |
| 6 | Yurtrus Scarring | The creature's skin becomes discolored and its ability to recover wanes. After failing a death saving throw, reduce the creature's maximum hitpoints by 1d20 |
| 7 | Gorgon's Grip | The creature's muscles stiffen intermittently. Disadvantage on Dexterity based checks and saving throws |
| 8 | Neverwake | The creature suffers from difficulty waking after sleep. On taking a long rest, roll a death saving throw. These saves linger from day to day until cured of the disease. Passing three saves cures the disease |
| 9 | Rotscale | The creature's skin becomes brittle. After taking bludgeoning or slashing damage, roll 1d20. On 5 or lower, AC is reduced by 1 until short rest |
| 10 | Sensewilt | The creature's senses start to deteriorate. Disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks |
| 11 | Talona's Blessing | The creature is bestowed a blessing by the Mother of all Plagues. Advantage on saving throws against being Poisoned |
| 12 | Toadthroat |
The creature's throat becomes painfully swollen. Disadvantage on Charisma checks involving vocal communication, cannot cast spells with vocal components |
Plaguebearer
At 18th Level, your Resistance to Poison becomes Immunity to Poison and you can no longer be affected by disease (your Resistance to Necrotic remains the same). Creatures with Constitutions of 5 or lower around you, excluding undead, immediately fall ill and gain disadvantage on Constitution and Charisma saving throws.
Additionally, you're keenly aware of diseased around you and have awareness of all creatures that are sick within 100ft of you, even beyond walls.
