Base Class: Barbarian
It was Baragor, the first of the Slayer Kings, who dedicated the Shrine of Grimnir in Karak Kadrin as a haven to all slayers and thus brought about a steep rise in the Slayer Cult. Oft times, it is here in the northern reaches of the Worlds Edge Mountains that a Dwarf undertakes the solemn slayer vow. Only a great act of shame or a broken oath can drive a Dwarf to seek redemption at the Shrine of Grimnir, and solace in an honorable death. Upon undertaking the slayer vow, a Dwarf will dye his hair bright red or orange and shave it into a great crest made stiff by animal fat or lime. They forsake armor and wield the weapon of the slayer, an axe, whilst their bodies are daubed in tattoos dedicated to the Ancestor God Grimnir, in the hope of garnering his favor in battle and ensuring a mighty doom.
Slayers do not speak of the terrible shame that led them to seek out this course, for that too would only bring further dishonor. They are reclusive loners, even amongst their own folk, and not given to song and feasting as are many other dwarfs. In battle they will be the first to sing their death-songs - a dour lamentation that acknowledges their demise is inevitable.
Restriction: Dwarves Only
Only dwarves can follow the Path of the Slayer. The Slayer fills a particular niche in dwarven society and culture.
Your DM can lift this restriction to better suit the campaign. The restriction exists for the Old World. It might not apply to your DM’s setting or your DM’s version of the Realms.
Enhanced Reckless Attacks
As a member of the Slayer Cult, you have forgone self-preservation and embraced destruction. As a part of choosing to recklessly attack, you may sacrifice AC to gain an additional rage bonus. Until the start of your next turn, add that amount to both hit and damage for each melee attack during the current turn.
At third level, the base amount is 3. At 6th level, it increases to 5. At 10th level, it increases to 7. At 14th level, it increases to 9.
Glorious Death, Denied
Grimnir, God of the Slayer Cult, often decides that honor will not be restored, as the life of the Slayer came at too small a price. As part of rolling a 20 on a death saving throw, or being healed from unconscious, you may roll a Constitution Saving Throw. The DC is equal to 20 - the amount of damage you last took. On a success, you may immediately use your reaction and a rage slot to stand up and enter a new rage. Your new hit points equal your constitution modifier, or whatever amount you were healed. If a hostile creature is within 5 feet and you entered a rage, you may make 1 melee attack against them.
Rising Rage
As enemies fall to the flurry of axe swings, the thrill of combat rises, pushing the Slayer to their limit.
After dealing the finishing blow or getting a melee critical hit on an enemy, you gain 1 Redemption token. These tokens are lost at the end of the fight, or you are knocked unconscious. They can be reobtained by using the Glorious Death, Denied feature.
1 token: +1 to your rage bonus to melee attacks and damage.
2 tokens: Gain barbarian level + 2 times your constitution modifier as temporary hit points.
3 tokens: Reroll all 1's on damage dice once an attack
4 tokens: +3 to your rage bonus to melee attack and damage. This does stack with the bonus granted by 1 token.
Chosen of Grimnir
You have come to realize that Grimnir has not denied you your right to death, but rather has chosen you to help defeat enemies of the mortal people wherever they spread. While raging, your attacks gain an additional 1d10 of radiant damage. Against abberations or fiends, the damage is instead 2d10. Additionally, your runic tattoos have become more reactive, granting you advantage on saves on spells cast by abberations or fiends.
Accomplished Slayer
As the Slayer continues to carve their way through the world, they often will take names of the beasts they slay. Such names include Trollslayer, or Giantslayer. The greatest of the formidable warriors are the infamous Daemonslayers or Dragonslayers, warriors who have managed to survive an encounter with two of the most ferocious creatures to ever live, slaying it and surviving to tell the tale.
Beginning at 14th level, when you kill certain creatures that are at least Large in size, you may gain the title of Slayer pertaining to that creature's type. (Beast, Celestial, Dragon, Fiend, Giant, Monstrosity, Undead.)
When facing a creature of a type in which you have the title, you gain advantage on melee attack rolls.
