Base Class: Sorcerer
In the ancient annals of magical lineage, the Chromatic Grays stand as enigmatic practitioners, their origin shrouded in the subtle hues of neutrality. As the narrative goes, these sorcerers emerged at the crossroads of opposing magical forces, navigating the delicate equilibrium between light and darkness, fire and ice, and every chromatic extreme that shapes the mystical tapestry.
Chromatic Grays are believed to be the result of a unique convergence of magical energies, a cosmic phenomenon that occurred when the forces of creation and destruction intertwined. Scholars posit that, during this celestial alignment, a select group of sorcerers absorbed the essence of this duality, becoming conduits of the Gray Weave—the esoteric energy that lies in the very middle of the magical spectrum.
Unlike their more flamboyant counterparts, Chromatic Grays are subtle practitioners, preferring the balance and harmony found in neutrality. Their magic, often manifested as undistinguished force, resonates with the ebb and flow of the Gray Weave. This unique connection allows them to manipulate spells in a way that eschews the extremes of the magical spectrum, rendering their effects both enigmatic and formidable.
Chromatic Grays are sought after as mediators and diplomats in magical conflicts, their presence seen as a calming influence that tempers the excesses of rival sorceries. Legends tell of their pivotal role in ancient wars, where their mastery of the Gray Weave turned the tides and brought about peace amid the chaos of clashing magical forces.
Equilibrium Shift
At 1st level, you can momentarily shift the balance in you or your allies favor. When you or an ally, within 30 feet, are dealt damage, you can use your reaction to gain resistance to that damage type until the end of your next turn. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
Gray Weave
At 6th level, you gain the ability to manipulate the neutral energies of the Gray Weave. When you cast a spell that deals damage, you can spent a 2 sorcery points to make it a Gray Weave spell. The Gray Weave spell's damage type becomes force, and it has no distinct color or temperature, making it difficult to identify. Additionally, creatures have disadvantage on saving throws against your Gray Weave spells.
Gray Nexus
At 14th level, your mastery over Gray Weave spells has brought its power to new heights . When you cast a Gray Weave spell, you can spend additional sorcery points to choose one of the following additional effects, each representing the essence of gray:
Ethereal Murk (1 sorcery point): The spell creates an ethereal murk around the target. The area within a 10-foot radius centered on the target becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute, as if it were obscured by a subtle, shifting haze.
Fade to Grayscale (2 sorcery points): The spell drains the vibrancy from its target. Any creature affected by the Gray Weave spell has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the end of its next turn, as if the world around them turns to grayscale.
Suppression Surge (3 sorcery points): The spell carries a surge of magical suppression. The target's magical item effects and any ongoing magical effects within a 10-foot radius centered on the target are suppressed until the start of your next turn.
Chromatic Equilibrium
At 18th level, you achieve a sublime state of magical harmony. Once per long rest, as an action, you can emanate an aura of magical equilibrium in a 30-foot radius for granting the following effects:
- Creatures within the aura lose advantage on all ability checks, Melee and Ranged attacks/spell attacks, and saving throws
- Creatures within the aura lose disadvantage on all ability checks, Melee and Ranged attacks/spell attacks, and saving throws
- Creatures within the aura lose all resistances and immunities to damage types
- Creatures within the aura lose any vulnerability to all damage types.
This aura lasts for 30 seconds, until you become incapacitated, or die.
