Base Class: Bard
The college of Culinary Arts is home to bards who use their sense of taste to make their mark on the world and inspire others. Whether a baker, chef, or saucier, a bard that walks the path of flavour is an expert in preparing meals that have just a dash of magic to them.
Such bards are a great asset to many-a-party, for there are few things more certain than an adventurer's hunger. There are many reasons one may be drawn to adventuring. They may be searching for a secret mythical ingredient, wish to complete a world class recipe book, or to explore the wonders other cultures have to offer. Whatever the case may be, these bards are sure to bring just the spice any adventuring party needs.
Culinary Arts
Beginning when you first choose this college at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with cook’s utensils. You add double your proficiency bonus to all checks made with them and to all ability checks related to cooking.
Additionally, you can use cook’s utensils as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.
Tasty Inspiratioon
Also at 3rd level, you’ve learnt to make your magic into nourishment. Creatures can receive a bardic inspiration die as long as they can eat and are within range, instead of being able to see or hear you, as you concoct your inspiration into a tasty treat.
Furthermore, whenever a creature rolls a bardic inspiration die granted by you, they also regain hit points equal to the result + your Charisma modifier. At 10th level, they add twice your Charisma modifier instead to the result.
Prix Fixe
At 6th level, you gain the following features.
Restful Nourishment. Whenever you use your song of rest feature, creatures regain hit points equal to two times the result on the die. In addition, they gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
Flavourful Spell. Whenever you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, a number of times equal to twice your proficiency bonus per long rest, you can choose to infuse it with overwhelming flavour (no action required). When you do, choose amongst the options below and choose a creature within 30 feet of you as you cast the spell.
- Bitter Spell. The creature takes necrotic damage equal to the spell’s level and can’t regain hit points until the end of your next turn, as its acrid taste numbs the body.
- Savory Spell. The creature gains temporary hit points equal to half your bard level + your proficiency bonus, as its rich and salty flavour satisfies all cravings.
- Sour Spell. The creature’s speed is reduced by 10 feet until the end of your next turn, as its acidic composition halts sensation.
- Spicy Spell. The creature takes fire damage equal to half your bard level + your proficiency bonus, as its sizzling profile burns more than just pallets.
- Sweet Spell. The creature’s speed is increased by 15 feet until the end of their next turn, as they are sent into an exalting sugar rush.
Chef's Special
By the time you’ve reached 14th level, you’ve managed to learn your culinary magnum opus. Once per long rest, as part of a short or long rest, you may prepare and cook it, causing the following effects to you and up to 6 other creatures that eat it. A creature that ate it gains several benefits un:
- They are cured of all diseases and poisons.
- Their exhaustion level, if any, is reduced by one.
- They gain temporary hit points equal to your bard level.
- Roll a d12. You can restore spell slots up to the result, divided amongst any of the creatures (for example, if you rolled a 5, you can restore a 5th level spell slot or a 3rd and a 2nd to two different creatures).
- If they have a reduction to any of their ability scores, up to one of those reductions ends on them.
- Any Hit Die spent to regain hit points aren’t rolled, taking the maximum amount instead.
- Until their next short or long rest, they have advantage on Charisma saving throws and on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
- Until their next short or long rest, their hit point maximum increases by 2d8.
