Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

The path of the divine, while ever unyielding, can be divergent for those who walk it. Many choose to show their faith by spreading the good word and sharing their holy insight with those of no belief, many by healing and helping the downtrodden with holy light, and others still with divine crusades to protect the innocent and strike down that which dare harm them. Those of the Martyr domain find the best approach to show one's appreciation of their God is through bodily sacrifice. Martyr clerics believe protecting one's allies is above all else, and will stop at nothing to do so. Going so far as to pull the magic through their very blood to dissuade enemies and heal their friends. While perhaps gruesome, those of the Martyr domain find self sacrifice to be the ultimate form of selflessness, and ultimate form of reverence for the divine.

Blood of the holy

Martyr clerics draw their power from the wounds they sustain in battle. As such, upon taking this subclass, your spellcasting modifier for your Cleric spells and abilities becomes constitution.

Altruist's Reward

Also at 1st level, you can use your holy magic to prevent harm to an ally and take harm in their stead. When an ally within 10 feet of you is about to be hit by an enemy attack, you can use your reaction to roll a 1d4 and subtract the number from the enemies attack roll. If the attack misses, deal damage to yourself equal to the amount rolled. There is no way to lower this damage.

The dice you roll increases when you reach 8th level (1d6) and 17th level (1d8)

Channel Divinity: Spurred by Sacrifice

You can use your Channel Divinity to sacrifice your health for the sake of your allies.

As an action, your blood seeps from your wounds and creates a tether between you and your allies. You gain the following effects:

  • You gain resistance to all damage types except slashing and piercing.
  • Enemies gain disadvantage on attack rolls against allies within 30 feet of you and advantage on attack rolls against you.
  • When you are hit by an enemy attack, you can heal an ally within 30 feet of you for an amount equal to half the damage rolled + your constitution modifier.

These effects last for one minute and end early if you are incapacitated or die.

Channel Divinity: Empowered Beyond Death

At 6th level, your desire to protect can drive you beyond your mortal wounds. When you are knocked to 0 HP, you can use your channel divinity to activate one of these two effects:

  • When you must make a death saving throw, you can instead choose to use your channel divinity to surge back up with an amount of hit points equal to a 1/3 of your maximum.
  • While you are unconscious, you can use your channel divinity give all allies within 30 feet of you a +2 to their attack and damage rolls for as long as you are unconscious. If you choose to do so, you automatically fail one death saving throw and gain disadvantage on death saving throws until you regain consciousness.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with immolating vigor. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 fire damage to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8,

Bonded by Blood

At 17th level, your bond with your allies has grown as well as your ability to empower them with it. The range of your "Altruist's Reward" and "Spurred by Sacrifice" features both increase by 20 feet. In addition, you gain resistance to all damage types while you have "Spurred by Sacrifice" activated.
