Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins of the Hunt are people that dedicate their lives to the good hunt. They are naturally great woodsmen and also protectors. They never allow a kill go to waste, and often help feed whole villages. It is vital for a paladin of the Hunt to only do so for a purpose, as to hunt for sport would be a great sin and an affront to the balance of nature. These paladins also act as stewards to the wilds, not solely hunting, but also helping to protect the wilds against over-exploitation, since a healthy ecosystem is essential to maintaining the balance.

TENETS OF THE HUNT

The tenets of the Hunt are unyieldingly strict and are precisely obeyed. A hunter's responsibility for others' lives makes any nonchalance in the wilds dangerous.

Respect. You shall only take lives with a purpose. Killing is not something to be done lightly. Respect your prey and honour their death.

Dedication. Hunting a single prey can take multiple days of hardship. You shall not falter until your goal is fulfilled.

Dignity. A hunt should be a reverent experience. Offer your respect to the beast which gives its life for yours.

Stewardship. Honor your duty to the people you have sworn to keep safe and fed. Uphold your responsibility to respect and maintain the wilderness from which you reap.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Hunt the Prey. As a bonus action you can call upon the divine hunt. You mark a creature as the prey of your hunt, creating a temporary bond between you and your target. For 1 minute the target is marked. As part of casting this channel divinity, and on subsequent turns as a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see within 5 feet of the marked target. To teleport in this way, you must be able to see the marked target.

Beast Hide. You can use your Channel Divinity to invoke the spirits of natural predators and hunters. As part of a 10 minute ritual, your skin takes on aspects of a powerful beast's hide, becoming thicker and sprouting fur or scales. Until your next long rest, your AC is equal to 13 plus your Charisma modifier.

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Aura of Sharpened Senses

Beginning at 7th level, the spirit of the hunt empowers you and your allies' senses. You gain Blindsight and friendly creatures gain Darkvision within a 10 feet aura centred on you.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Snap at their Heels

Starting at 15th level, Hunter's Mark now also marks the target for Hunt the Prey while concentrating on it, permitting you to teleport within 5 ft. of the marked target.

Additionally, you have advantage on attacks taken against the marked target after teleporting.

Elder Champion

At 20th level, you can assume the form of an ancient force of nature, taking on an appearance you choose. For example, your skin might turn green or take on a bark-like texture, your hair might become leafy or moss-like, or you might sprout antlers or a lion-like mane.

Using your action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • At the start of each of your turns, you regain 10 hit points.
  • Whenever you cast a paladin spell that has a casting time of 1 action, you can cast it using a bonus action instead.
  • Enemy creatures within 10 feet of you have disadvantage on saving throws against your paladin spells and Channel Divinity options.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
