Base Class: Artificer

Needle makers master a tradition of weapon crafting that specializes in sharp, extremely beautiful finesse weapons such as rapiers and daggers. Mastered only by fairies and gnomes, this tradition has been adopted only by feywild-birn practitioners, who honor and expand on the old ways.

In combat, a needle maker relies on his vast knowledge of weaponry and on how to exploit weak points, which allow the needle maker to channel magic into devastating attacks and a cunning defense. Many who have observed a needle maker at work report both his exquisite weapon craftmanship and his strong grasp of combat strategies.

Prerequisites: gnome and fairy characters only.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Needle Maker feature

You gain proficiency with smith’s tools. If you already have proficiency in smith’s tool  you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Needle Maker Spells

3rd-level Needle Maker feature

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Battle Smith Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Maker's training

3rd-level Needle Maker feature

Your smithing and your combat training have paid off in two ways:

  • You gain proficiency with finesse weapons.
  • When you attack with a finesse weapon that deals piercing damage, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Sharpened to Death

Your keen eye has granted you the ability to sharpen piercing weapons to be even more deadly.

• When you hit with a finesse weapon that deals piercing damage your damage roll deals an additional 1d8 piercing damage.

Extra Attack

5th-level Battle Smith feature

You can attack twice, rather than once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Pinning Strikes

9th-level Needle Maker's feature

Your keen eye has granted you the ability to sharpen piercing weapons to be even more deadly.

Whenever you or a friendly creature within 5ft of you hits with a meele attack that deals piercing damage, you can use your reaction to cause the target of that attack to have vulnerability to all of that attack’s damage. Once you have used this feat you can't do so again untill you finish a long rest.

Needles Mastery

15th-level Needle Maker's feature

Your Sharpened to Death and Pinning Strikes feats become stronger:

  • The extra damage granted by your Sharpened to Death feat is increades to 2d10 instead of 1d8.
  • You can use your Pinning Strikes feat 1 additional time every long rest.
