Base Class: Rogue
Whether accidentally or on purpose, your soul was stolen from you and you were resurrected without it. Now you walk the line between life and death, not quite belonging in either world. You exist as the twilight between two states of being. This has enhanced your abilities further than you ever dreamed possible, at the terrible cost of filling your hollow body with necrotic energy that threatens to spill out and consume the light. When you are inevitably destroyed, nothing awaits you but the void.
Void Energy
3rd-level Voidbound feature
You harbor a wellspring of necrotic energy within yourself. This energy is represented by your Void dice, which are each a d6. You have a number of these dice equal to twice your proficiency bonus, and they fuel various necrotic powers you have, which are detailed below. Some of your powers expend the Void dice they use, as specified in the power's description, and you can't use a power if it requires you to use your dice when all are expended. You regain all expended Void dice when you finish a long rest. If you deliver the killing blow to a humanoid or undead creature, you instantly recover one Void die. You may use this feature a number of times equal to half your proficiency modifier, rounded down.
When you reach certain levels in this class, the size of your Void dice increases: at 5th level (d8), 11th level (d10), and 17th level (d12). The powers below use your Void dice.
Soul Sight. As an action, you may tap into the infinite darkness that binds you to your accursed unlife. Expend one Void die. For a number of minutes equal to the number rolled, you may sense any humanoid or undead creature within 60 feet of you, even if they're invisible or otherwise concealed. This ability only tells you how many creatures are in this range and what type they are, but not their direction or distance. While this active you have darkvision out to 60 feet, or it extends by 60 feet if you already have it. This darkvision is not impeded by magical darkness.
Twilight Walker. When concealed by dim light or darkness, you may momentarily straddle the boundary between the planes. As an Action, expend any number of available Void die. For a number of minutes equal to the number rolled, you step partially into the Shadowfell. You gain advantage on any checks to hide or move silently, and you become partially incorporeal. You appear as what you really are inside - a shadow, pretending to be alive. You are resistant to physical and necrotic damage but vulnerable to radiant. You cannot interact with the Material Plane in any way without ending the effect. This effect ends early if you attack or cause another creature to make a saving throw, if you enter an area of bright light, or if you take radiant damage. You may end the effect early at any time, no action required. While utilizing this ability you are visible to the creatures of the Shadowfell and they may interact with you if they choose. While Twilight Walking, you are considered Undead for the purposes of any spells or abilities that affect them, including Turn Undead.
Void Blades
3rd-level Voidbound feature
You can manifest your inner power as shadowy blades of necrotic energy. Whenever you take the Attack action, you can manifest a shadow blade from your free hand and make the attack with that blade. This magic blade is a simple melee weapon with the finesse and thrown properties. It has a normal range of 60 feet and no long range, and on a hit, it deals necrotic damage equal to 1d6 plus the ability modifier you used for the attack roll. The blade vanishes immediately after it hits or misses its target.
After you attack with the blade, you can make a melee or ranged weapon attack with a second void blade as a bonus action on the same turn, provided your other hand is free to create it. The damage die of this bonus attack is 1d4, instead of 1d6.
Soulbinding
9th-level Voidbound feature
Upon reaching 9th level you may tear open the boundary between the Material and Shadow planes long enough to pull through a servant, bound to your will... for a time. You may expend any number of Void die and summon a Wight or Deathlock Wight that serves you to the best of its abilities for a number of hours equal to the number rolled. The creature maintains its intelligence and resents being bound to your will. After the time has elapsed, it breaks free of your bindings and behaves as it naturally would.
Once you have used this feature, you must complete a short or long rest before using it again. If you summon a second creature while already controlling one, the first one instantly breaks free. If you're knocked unconscious or killed, all controlled creatures break free.
Wither and Rot
13th-level Voidbound feature
Your Void Blades grow in power and begin to affect your other abilities. When you deal Sneak Attack damage, you may choose to inflict necrotic damage instead of your weapon type. If you cast any spells or make any attacks that deal fire, cold, acid, poison, or electric damage, you may choose to deal necrotic damage instead. If you have no remaining Void dice, this feature ceases to function until you regain at least one die.
You may no longer cast spells or use attacks that inflict radiant damage or create light.
Twilight Master
17th-level Voidbound feature
You may infuse yourself even more completely into the stuff of the Shadowfell. When you use your Twilight Walker ability, you become immune to nonmagical damage as your body becomes fully incorporeal. You gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed and may pass through solid objects and creatures, though if you end your turn inside another creature or object you take 1d10 force damage. You are completely invisible in dim light and darkness and count as such for the purposes of having advantage on attack rolls.
As your power grows, so does your connection to the spirit realms. If you take any radiant damage or are exposed to bright light, in addition to the effect being cancelled, you are stunned until the end of your next turn.
