Base Class: Fighter
Standard Bearers are Fighters- typically Knights- tasked with the protection and transport of a specific banner. Depending on their order or organization, a Standard Bearer's banner grants its allies a boon capable of turning the tides of combat, and it is this type of Fighter whom legends are most commonly wrote about.
Ancient Standard
Starting when you choose this Archetype at 3rd level, you are granted the use of a banner, known as an Ancient Standard, to carry into combat. The standard is attached to a 10-foot long pole, which can be held in one hand. When you gain this feature, choose one of the following properties, which applies to the standard.
Aggression. While you are holding the standard, you and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with weapons.
Defense. While you are holding the standard, you and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have a +1 bonus to AC.
Bravery. While you are holding the standard, you and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against being Frightened.
Maintaining possession of an Ancient Standard requires its eternal protection. As long as you have a standard in your possession, it is a viable target for weapon and spell attacks. It has an AC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus, and hit points equal to 10 times your Fighter level. It is immune to poison and psychic damage. If the standard is reduced to 0 hit points, it is destroyed, and you take 10d10 force damage as the spirits of your predecessors unleash their wrath upon you. This damage cannot be reduced. In order to restore a destroyed banner, you must spend 1,000 gold pieces and spend 7 days to either get a replacement or repair the original, upon which you gain this feature's benefits again.
Designer's Note: The Ancient Standard automatically succeeds on all saving throws, and does not count as a target in spells or effects that require a saving throw (Fireball, Lightning Bolt, etc).
