Base Class: Monk
The darkness fades away as the last body hits the ground. The monk, wearing a blindfold around his eyes, slowly relaxes his arms, tensed from battle. He inferred it was an orc, a halfling, and an elf fighting him. Getting close enough to them was enough to "see" who they were. Their weapons were common, so he decided they were just bandits that tried to ambush him. He effortlessly healed his wound as he walked away, footsteps silent.
Monks of the Curse of Theia are the ultimate warriors of blind combat. After pledging yourself to the goddess Theia, you are cursed with blindness but develop unmatched techniques on the battlefield. You learn techniques to sense your opponent and take them out with devastating blows, while also manipulating ki to defeat your opponents in ways they wouldn't expect.
Theia's Curse
The goddess Theia has cursed you with blindness, but you gain advanced senses that allow you to maintain your position on the battlefield. You gain 40 feet of blindsight and 80 feet of tremorsense, plus an advantage on all perception checks that do not rely on sight.
In addition, your heightened senses and exceptional spatial awareness allow you to strike with accurate precision. As a full action, you can use your Blinded Precision ability to make a special unarmed strike against a creature within 10 feet of you. This strike requires a successful Wisdom (Perception) check, contested by the target's Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Wisdom (Perception) check, whichever is higher. Roll without advantage. If your check succeeds, you may attack the target again with an additional Blinded Precision unarmed strike. If your check fails, you do no damage on the strike. If you successfully land 3 Blinded Precision strikes in a row, the target is blinded until the end of it's next turn. If you land 5 Blinded precision strikes in a row, the target is frightened until the end of it's next turn. If you fail the ability check for any of these, your turn ends.
Starting at 11th level, the additional damage from Blinded Precision increases. For every consecutive hit, the amount of damage increases by 1d4.
Starting at 17th level, the range of your Blindfolded Precision increases to 20 feet.
Theia's Disruption
At 6th level, your training with ki allows you to easily break enemy attacks using your unusual connection with Theia. You gain 2 new abilities, Theia's Darkness and Theia's Hindrance. As an action at will, you can cast darkness in a 30 foot sphere around you without concentration. The spell can only be cast on yourself, causing the sphere to follow you for 10 minutes before clearing. Any creature within this area is blinded until they leave the area. 2 charges and reset on short rest. Additionally, you gain the ability to block enemy attacks. As a reaction, you may attempt to block a melee attack if you have at least one free hand. Make a DEX 15 saving throw. On success, you may reduce the damage by 1d10 + your DEX modifier + your monk level. If the damage is reduced to 0, you may attack the blocked enemy with an unarmed strike as a free reaction. If you fail the saving throw, take an additional die of damage from the attack.
Theia's Empathy
Beginning at 11th level, twice per long rest as an action, you can perform an Act of Empathy:
- Regain HP equal to your monk level and heal any creature within reach HP 5 times your monk level.
- Damage yourself HP equal to your monk level and damage any creature within reach HP 5 times your monk level.
Theia's Severance
At 17th level, you gain the ability to damage someone's mind and soul as well as their body. When you hit with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 ki points to make the hit creature make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed throw, they become blinded and lose any ability to cast magic or deal magical damage, additionally taking 6d10 necrotic damage. On a successful throw, they take half damage.
