Base Class: Fighter
In the mystical realm of Dragonlance, where ancient gods and powerful magic shape the fate of mortals, the Gem Knights emerge as a beacon of honor and valor. Their origins intertwine with the illustrious Knights of Solamnia, a revered order of chivalry dedicated to the protection of Solamnia and the ideals of goodness.
The Birth of the Gem Knights
Long ago, during the tumultuous aftermath of the Cataclysm, when the world of Krynn reeled from the devastation, a visionary knight named Vinas Solamnus received a divine vision. Paladine, Kiri-Jolith, and Habbakukβthe benevolent godsβspoke to him in unison. They revealed the existence of ancient gemstones imbued with celestial magic, remnants of a forgotten age.
Vinas gathered a small band of loyal knights, each from noble families that had pledged allegiance to him after the fall of the Empire of Ergoth. Among them were Berthel Brightblade, Peradur Soth, Gabriel Di Caela, and Elias Solamnus. These knights became the first Gem Knights, their destinies forever entwined with the radiant gems they carried.
The Oath and the Measure
The Gem Knights live by a sacred code known as the Oath of Est Sularus oth MithasββMy honor is my life.β This oath binds them to unwavering principles of courage, loyalty, and selflessness. Their gemstone focusβwhether a Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emeraldβbecomes a conduit for their magic and purpose.
Diamond: The Diamond Gem Knights embody resilience.
Ruby: Ruby Gem Knights channel fiery energy into their strikes.
Sapphire: Sapphire Gem Knights possess clarity of mind.
Emerald: Emerald Gem Knights bring life to wounded allies.
The Measure, a set of rules derived from ancient tomes, guides their conduct. Lord Gunthar Uth Wistan, a revered figure, dedicated his life to revising the Measure. His successor, Liam Ehrling, continued this legacy, revealing the revised Measure after Guntharβs passing in 392 AC.
Gem Bond
At 3rd level, you forge a mystical bond with a gemstone of your choice. This gem becomes your focus for your magical abilities. Choose one of the following gems: Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. Each gem grants you unique abilities:
- Diamond: Your resilience increases. You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage while wearing heavy armor.
- Ruby: Your attacks blaze with fiery energy. When you hit with a melee weapon attack, you can deal an additional 1d6 fire damage.
- Sapphire: Your gem grants clarity of mind. You have immunity to the charmed and frightened conditions.
- Emerald: Your gem creates a healing aura when attacking. On a successful attack, allies within 5 feet of you heal hitpoints equal to 1d4 + your constitution modifier (minimum 1).
