Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Oculists are rogues that choose to specialize outside the Material Plane and can detect, research, communicate, exorcise and imprison creatures from beyond the Material Plane. They often work in small groups to avoid attracting the attention of of a cult or kingdom as their work is often not respected by polite society.

Occultism

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain the following benefits:

  • You learn the Comprehend Languages, Speak with Dead, and Detect Evil and Good and may cast them once per short or long rest. This version of Detect Evil and Good cannot detect elementals.

  • You have advantage on any intelligence History or Wisdom Insight to determine the identify and type of any aberration, celestial, fey, fiend, or undead.

  • You may use a bonus action to make a History roll against any aberration, celestial, fey, or fiend to determine their hit points, level, resistances and weaknesses if any. At the DMs discretion, some of this information may be hidden.

Demonology

Your infernal studies have allowed you to call upon and bind creatures from other planes into your service. You may cast each of the spells listed below once per long rest. However, you may only cast a spell granted by the 11th or 13th level features while you have no other summoned creatures at your aid of any kind, willing or otherwise.

When you gain 11th level your occultish abilities grow and you may now bring creatures into the Material Plane and gain the ability to also cast the following spells:

When you gain 13th level your occultish summoning powers peak and you may also cast the following spell:

Exorcism

When you reach 13th level in this class, you are under the effects of the Dispel Evil and Good, except it does not effect elementals.

Additionally, when you land a sneak attack on a target that is a celestial, fey, fiend, or undead you may attempt to exorcise them from this plane, the target of your attack must make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. (8 + your proficiency bonus + your INT modifier) or be forcibly sent back to their home plane on a failed save. On a successful save the creature takes an additional 4d6 sneak attack damage.

A creature returned to their home plane in this manner may not attempt to return for 7 days, and cannot return to a location with 5 miles of the area they were exorcised from.  You may attempt to make an exorcism in this way a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.

When you choose to attempt to make an exorcism in this way, your protective magic wanes, and you lose the protective effect of Dispel Evil and Good until your next short or long rest.

Occult Transformation

You've studied occult creatures for long enough that you gain the ability to temporarily channel your soul into the form of one.

Once per long rest, you can use your action to take the form of a Death Slaad, Deva, or Horned Devil.

You use the creatures stat block but retain your intelligence, charisma, and wisdom saving throws, and statistics.

You retain your class abilities, and languages and are able to speak in any language you knew before you transformed.

You may remain in this form for up to a number of hours equal to your proficiency bonus.
