Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Your connection to the magic of the fey wilds takes the form of a draconic spirit, which can manifest in physical form as a mischievous faerie drake. As your powers grow, your drake grows as well, blossoming from a small four-legged companion to a majestic winged creature large and strong enough for you to ride. Along the way, you gain an increasing share of the awe-inspiring power the dragon draws from the fey realm.

Your faerie dragon begins as a cat-sized drake with butterfly wings. It wears a sharp-toothed grin and expresses its delight by the twitching of its tail, its merriment fading only if it is attacked.

Invisible Tricksters. The only warning of a faerie dragon’s presence is a stifled giggle. The dragon stays out of sight, watching invisibly as its victims contend with its pranks. When its fun is done, the dragon might reveal itself, depending on the disposition of its “prey.”

Friendly and Bright. A faerie dragon has a sharp mind, a fondness for treasure and good company, and a puckish sense of humor. Travelers can play to a faerie dragon’s draconic nature by offering it “treasure” in the form of sweets, baked goods, and baubles in exchange for information or safe passage through its territory.

Draconic Gift

3rd-Level Drakewarden Feature

The bond you share with your drake creates a connection to dragonkind, granting you understanding and empowering your presence. You gain the following benefits:

Thaumaturgy. You learn the thaumaturgy cantrip, which is a ranger spell for you.

Tongue of Dragons. You learn to speak, read, and write Draconic or one other language of your choice.

Faerie Drake Companion

3rd-Level Drakewarden Feature

As an action, you can magically summon a faerie drake that is bound to you. It appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of you.

The drake is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the accompanying Drake Companion stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. A faerie dragon starts as a cat-sized dragon with small butterfly wings. It wears a sharp-toothed grin and expresses its delight by the twitching of its tail, its merriment fading only if it is attacked.

In combat, the drake shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. The drake remains until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you use this feature to summon the drake again, or until you die. If the faerie drake is reduced to 0 hit points or is dismissed, it is returned to the Fae plane. Anything the drake was wearing or carrying is left behind when the drake vanishes.

Once you summon the drake, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to summon it.

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft. one creature. Hit: 1D4 damage

Mind Sliver (cantrip, range 60 feet): The dragon fires a disorienting spike of psychic energy into the mind of one creature within range. The target must succeed on an Intelligence saving throw or take 1d6 psychic damage and subtract 1d4 from the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn.

Unearthly Chorus (level 1, once per long rest): Music of a style you choose fills the air around the dragon in a 30-foot radius. The music spreads around corners and can be heard from up to 100 feet away. The music moves with the dragon, centered on it for the duration.

Until the spell ends, you make Charisma (Performance) checks with advantage. In addition, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to beguile one creature you choose within 30 feet of you that can see you and hear the music. The creature must make a DC 13 Charisma saving throw. If you or your companions are attacking it, the creature automatically succeeds on the saving throw. On a failure, the creature becomes friendly to you for as long as it can hear the music and for 1 hour thereafter. You make Charisma (Deception) checks and Charisma (Persuasion) checks against creatures made friendly by this spell with advantage.

Euphoria Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales a puff of euphoria gas at one creature within 5 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw, or for 1 minute, the target can’t take reactions and must roll a d6 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior during the turn:

1–4. The target takes no action or bonus action and uses all of its movement to move in a random direction.

5–6. The target doesn’t move, and the only thing it can do on its turn is make a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Bond of Fang and Scale

7th-Level Drakewarden Feature

The bond you share with your drake intensifies, protecting you and stoking the drake’s fury. When you summon your drake, its wings grow larger and it gains a flying speed equal to its walking speed.

In addition, while your drake is summoned, you and the drake gain the following benefits:

Drake Mount. The drake grows to Medium size. Reflecting your special bond, you can use the drake as a mount if your size is Medium or smaller. While you are riding your drake, it can’t use the flying speed of this feature.

Magic Fang. The drake’s Bite attack deals an extra 1d4 damage of the type chosen for the drake’s Draconic Essence, for a total of 2D4.

Resistance. You gain resistance to the damage type chosen for the drake’s Draconic Essence.

Psychic Resistance

You gain resistance to psychic damage.

Drake’s Breath

11th-Level Drakewarden Feature

As an action, you can exhale a 30-foot cone of damaging, shimmering breath or cause your drake to exhale it. Each creature in the cone must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 8d6 psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

This damage increases to 10d6 when you reach 15th level in this class.

Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher to use it again.

Perfected Bond

15th-Level Drakewarden Feature

Your bond to your drake reaches the pinnacle of its power. While your drake is summoned, you and the drake gain the following benefits:

Empowered Bite. The drake’s Bite attack deals an extra 1d4 damage of the type chosen for its Draconic Essence (for a total of 3d4 damage).

Large Drake. The drake grows to Large size. When you ride your drake, it is no longer prohibited from using the flying speed of Bond of Fang and Scale.

Reflexive Resistance. When either you or the drake takes damage while you’re within 30 feet of each other, you can use your reaction to give yourself or the drake resistance to that instance of damage. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
