When losing their ability to see, most people resort to crutches or depend on others to be able to get around their daily life. But some look inward, adapt to their situation and follow a new way of life, in unison with the earth around them.

Monks who follow the Way of the Blind Bandit develop a Keen Connection with the Earth around them and heighten their other senses to take in their surroundings.

Blindness

You lost your eyesight, maybe during an accident or combat or you were born this way. 

  •  You are considered blinded against all creature, unless you are aware of their Location due to your Seismic Sense
  •  You automatically fail any Checks related to Sight
  •  You automatically succeed any Saving Throw made against Gaze-related attacks, for example the Medusa's Petrifying Gaze

 

Seismic Sense

You lost your eyesight, but adapted and developed a new way of navigating

  •  You gain Tremorsense in a range of 60ft., being able to feel any vibration in the Ground in range, being able to pinpoint movement from creatures around you and sensing the Layout of the Terrain. The Tremorsense only extends to areas directly connected to the Ground you are standing on and only detects creatures in direct contact with it. The Range increases by +15ft. each at Level 6, 11 and 17
  •  The Strength of your Tremorsense depends on the Material you are standing on. On solid Ground like Earth or Stone you can clearly pinpoint any movement around you, also gaining +5 to your passive Perception. On Sand or Metal it is weaker, resulting in no benefits, and when standing on non-earthen ground like Wood, Ice or while submerged in water you suffer -10 to your passive Perception and are fully blinded. These Restrictions also apply to all following Monastic Tradition Features including your Seismic Sense and Earth Bending.
  •  Any Creature within range moving in Contact with solid Ground must make a Dexterity (Stealth) Check against your passive Perception or you can accurately pinpoint their location
  •  You can predict enemy attacks based on their movement, however, Attacks that do not require a lot of motion like Bows, Crossbows or Spells without Somatic Components have advantage against you

 

 

Minor Earth Bending

From Level 6 onward, due to the connection you developed to the Nature around you, you are able to focus your Ki into using Nature's Magic. You can manipulate Stone, Rocks and Earth around you in multiple ways using your Ki-Points.

  • You can use an Action to use the Mold Earth Cantrip. Additionally, you can use this Cantrip to help block projectiles, adding your Wisdom-Modifier to your Deflect Missiles Ability
  • You can use an Action to spend 2 Ki-Points to cast Maximilian's Earthen Grasp at 2nd Level
  • You can use an Action to spend any Ki-Points and roll an equal amount of Martial Arts Die. You form Earth and Rocks as an armor around you and gain Temporary Hit Points equal to the number rolled. While the Armor persists you have resistance against acid, fire and force damage as well as bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from non-magical weapons.

 

Evolved Seismic Sense

Starting from 11th Level, you are no longer considered blind when attacked by low-movement attacks.

As an action you can spend 3 Ki-Points to send an almost unnoticable Seismic Wave through the Earth beneath you. You immediately gain information about the Layout of the Terrain around you within a 500ft. radius. It also extends towards creatures and objects in direct contact. This may reveal the location of secret tunnels, invisible creatures or traps.

Finally, you get advantage on Wisdom (Insight) Checks to reveal if someone is lying by sensing their increased heartrate.

Masterful Earth Bending

When reaching Level 17 yu have mastered the Art of Bending your earthen surroundings and using them at your will, granting you the following benefits:

  • When making an unarmored strike you are able to use your ability to manipulate rocks and earth in the Vicinity to use them as projectiles. The Range of unarmed strikes increases by +20 ft.
  • When taking your Flurry of Blows, you can spend an additional Ki-Point to further increase the range by another +20ft.
  • Your Patient Defense no longer requires a Ki-Point and you can use a modified version of your deflect missiles against melee attacks, blocking them using earth bending but not throwing them back.
