Base Class: Paladin
A paladin sworn to the service of the enigmatic god, Lord Gaben, and his dedication to fair commerce and entertainment of the masses. His patronage of merchants and entertainers allows his faithful to summon the characters of their stories to aid them.
Tenets of Steam
Protection of the Consumer: A fair deal should always be offered to the purchaser, even when it is disadvantageous, and their concerns must always be heeded.
Innovation of the Field: New creators and new technologies should always be supported, given a platform and protected from undue, but not deserved, criticism and attacks
Embrace the Holidays: Every holiday season brings a new opportunity to please the consumer, and to see gold change hands in legitimate business. One must always protect and observe holiday customs.
Defend the Brand: A paladin of Steam must never bring shame upon Lord Gaben by conducting themselves disreputably or dishonestly, always engage in truly legitimate dealings and never go back on a contract.
Channel Divinity
The Great Sale: After every long rest, a Paladin of Steam may purchase new stories from Lord Gaben's Great Sale for use in their adventures. Each story, when later invoked from the Paladin's Library (which is a physical light blue book bearing Lord Gaben's sigil) summons a corresponding creature. This creature is not charmed by the Paladin, but will fight on their behalf and follow commands to the best of its ability. These stories have a base gold cost, but because Lord Gaben's Great Sale is benevolent, after each long rest, before choosing which stories to purchase, the Paladin may roll a d10 for each individual story and get a discount equal to 10 times the number rolled percent, rerolling all results of 10.
The Freeman (Base Price 1800 gold): The Freeman appears like an adult human man of average height and build, clad in orange plate that does not visually resemble any known style, with his only other distinguishing feature being a pair of glasses. The Freeman should have stats roughly equivalent to the Paladin's when summoned. He is summoned with the Crowbar of the Freeman (Damage = to 2d10 + 2 * Paladin Level Force Damage). Should the Freeman be attacked he has an AC of 22, is immune to Poison damage, and has health equal to 1/2 Paladin's health. If he is killed, the Freeman is rescued by a mysterious employer, and will return 1d10 rounds later. The Freeman counts as having Expertise in all intelligence based skills, and possess an Intelligence bonus of +6. After 30 minutes, the Freeman is desummoned.
The Portalmaster (Base Price 1800): The Portalmaster appears like an adult human woman of slightly below average height and athletic build clad in a white tanktop and orange pants with odd boot-like devices on her legs and a strange device in hand. The Portalmaster may link any two places in space with a magical gate equivalent to the Gate spell provided she can see the two locations. Any creature caught in one of these Gates is immediately transported to the other one if it exists. If the two gates are placed in a vertical line, the creature caught within rapidly picks up speed and is flung between the two, requiring a Dex save equal to Paladin's spell save DC + turns spent in the loop. Making this save counts as a full action. When the creature escapes the portal, if they have any means to negate fall damage, then they take no damage, otherwise they count as having fallen 10 feet per turn caught in the loop. The Portalmaster has an AC of 16 and has health equal to 1/4th Paladin's health. After 1 hour, the Portalmaster is desummoned and all Gates disappear.
The Spy (Base Price 1800): The spy appears like an average adult human man whose face is completely hidden by a balaclava, dressed in a fine suit whose colors matches the Paladin's primary color. The spy counts as a rogue equal to 1/2 the Paladin's level, rounded up, with the Assassin subclass. The spy may also cast Disguise Self at will, and counts as having Expertise in Deception and Stealth. The Spy may also place a box-like device that can be concealed but is obvious if found that projects an anti-magic field within 20 feet of the object. The Spy uses a butterfly knife that counts as a +2 Dagger, has an AC of 18 and has health equal to 1/4th Paladin's health. After 6 hours, the Spy is desummoned, and a manila folder appears in the Paladin's hand containing any knowledge the spy gained, including small "Polaroids" of particularly relevant individuals or objects. Note that this does not occur if the spy is killed before the duration ends.
The Counterstrikers (Base Price 1800): The Counterstrikers are a group of five warriors in odd combat gear using unknown weapons (unless the setting has prior access to firearms, in which case they are recognizable as modern firearms). The Counterstrikers possess no non-combat skills, unlike the Freeman, and possess very minimal tactical acumen. They do all however have the ability to rush an objective and aggressively attack anything not aligned to the Paladin at said objective. They each attack with a weapon that does 4d8 + 2 * Paladin Level with a range equal to 800 feet. Their to-hit roll should be 1d20+10 or 1/2 the Paladin's bonus, whichever is higher. Each Counterstriker has AC 19 and 1/4th the Paladin's health, but, upon dying they respawn after 1d4 rounds. The counterstrikes are desummoned after 1d12+CHA Mod rounds.
The Steam Marketplace: The Paladin may offer magic or particularly interesting items to Lord Gaben in tribute, and he will repay in kind with gold. The amount of gold given depends on item rarity with the below as a guideline, but this should be altered if Lord Gaben is feeling particularly pleased or displeased with the Paladin
Common 200 Gold
Uncommon 400 Gold
Rare 800 Gold
Very Rare 1600 Gold
Legendary 3200 Gold
Artifact 10000 Gold
New Patch
Lord Gaben patches issues in all summons within 30 feet of the Paladin. While within this aura, any summon may use any of the Paladin's stats in place of their own, and if damage is taken it may instead be taken by the Paladin.
Triple A Tales
The Slayer (2800) - The Slayer takes the form of a large humanoid covered in green armor with a green visor. When the Slayer is summoned, heavy metal music plays with no discernible source. The Slayer counts as possessing AC24, health equal to 1.5* Paladin's Health, and the Extra Attack x2 feature. When the Slayer attacks, he may choose from one of three profiles: Shotgun, 8d6+6+2*Paladin Level with a range of 30 feet, Heavy Assault Rifle, 4d10+12+2*Paladin Level with a range of 300 Feet and Pistol, 6d4+2+2*Paladin Level with a range of 150 Feet, with each attack from a pistol counting as two attacks. The Slayer may also attack with a fourth profile, but if he does so he is immediately desummoned: The BFG-9000, 20d10+25+2*Paladin Level damage with a range of 9000 Feet and a blast radius of 15 feet. The Slayer may, whenever an enemy within 5 ft of him has 5 health or less, immediately make a bloody Glory Kill, killing the enemy in gruesome fashion and gaining an action, this may only happen on the Slayer's turn. When summoned in any of the Hells, his definition is indefinite, but if summoned in any other plane his duration is 1d10+1 rounds. He also gains automatic advantage on attacks and saving throws made in combat against any Fiend or creature whose origin is in one of the Hells.
The Commander (2800 Gold) - The Commander should be described as visually resembling the Paladin's player, including gender and ethnicity. The Commander is a strategic and logistical genius and should be able to provide a well-reasoned, effective solution to any problem of a military or logistical nature. The Commander may also summon members of his shadowy organization to support him, including engineers, scientists and soldiers for security. Note that while the Commander will use his soldiers for his own safety or strategic goals, he can not summon them in a tactical combat encounter. When the Commander is in a combat encounter, he may provide one of two benefits: Either he uses his tactical and strategic brilliance to grant his allies Advantage on all saving throws and remove any imposed disadvantages, or he uses his genius to impose a form of combat that he is much more familiar with, causing all allies to go on the initiative step of their highest ally and all enemies to use the initiative step of their lowest ally. When the Commander's researchers get hold of an enemy's corpses, they may perform autopsies immediately and, so long as the Commander's summons is never ended forcefully or otherwise, future attacks against enemies of that type gain advantage. In addition, any technology the enemy possesses may be studied by the Researchers and fully understood within 1d30+15 days, allowing the engineers to reproduce it if given sufficient material and time.
The White Mage (2800 Gold) - The White Mage appears as a tall, reasonably attractive human woman in a white dress. She counts as a 9th level spell caster, and may cast any support or healing spell up to that level. For purposes of spell slots, she is counted to regain all expended spell slots when the Paladin takes a short rest. She may immediately counter any banishment or instantly lethal effect that she perceives without expending a spell slot (note that this does not extend to deaths caused by "normal" combat, only instant kill effects EX: Power Word Kill). In addition, she may "reverse" any debuff on a party members, both dispelling the debuff and applying an equal/opposite buff for the same duration EX: If dispelling a two turn Slowing effect, instead a two turn Haste effect is applied). Note that this only applies to debuffs caused by an opponent within the time she has been summoned. The White Mage has no summon duration, but only possesses AC16 and 1/2 the Paladin's health
