Monk
Base Class: Monk

Whether your monk was born under the sign of the Phoenix, blessed by one after performing a deed in it's time of desperation, or merely an outsider privileged enough to enter one of their monasteries, the Way of the Phoenix Soul is a powerful order of monks who believe freedom, rebirth, and self expression are the keys to enlightenment.

Disciple of Fire

3rd-Level Way of the Phoenix Soul Feature

You can channel infernal power to magnify your presence and imbue your unarmed strikes with the essence and attributes of a phoenix's claws. You gain the following benefits:

Scorching Presence. If you fail a Charisma (Intimidation) or Charisma (Persuasion) check, you can use your reaction to reroll the check, as you tap into the mighty presence of the phoenix. Once this feature turns a failure into a success, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Burning Talon Strike. When you damage a target with an unarmed strike, you can change the damage type to fire, piercing, or slashing.

Tongue of Fae and Flame. You learn to speak, read, and write Sylvan or one other language of your choice.

Breaths of Fire and Sky

You gain access to a limited pool of cantrips and spells that allow you to harness flame. To cast the spell or cantrip, you must spend ki points equal to the spell level (cantrips are counted as 1st level spells in this instance), and for each beyond the spell's base level, add 2 ki points to it's cost.

Cantrips: Create Bonfire, Produce Flame, Firebolt.

Spells: At 3rd level, your character can cast cantrips as well as 1st and 2nd level spells.

1st level: Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke.

2nd level: Aganazzar's Scorcher, Dragon's Breath, Flame Blade, Heat Metal, Scorching Ray.

Minor Rebirth

6th-Level Way of the Phoenix Soul Feature

When you drop to zero hit points, you may roll 1d10 to regain hit points and deal fire damage equal to the roll to all creatures within a 30ft radius, once per long rest.

Your list of known spells now increases to 3rd level spells.

Spells: Ashardalon's Stride, Fireball, Melf's Minute Meteors.

Aspect of the Firebird

11th-Level Way of the Phoenix Soul Feature

The power of your phoenix soul now radiates from you, warding your allies or inspiring fear in your enemies. As a bonus action, you can create an aura of blazing power that radiates 10 feet from you for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain one of the following effects of your choice:

Frightful Presence. When you create this aura, and as a bonus action on subsequent turns, you can choose a creature within the aura. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your ki save DC or become frightened of you for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a successful save.

Heatwave. You and your allies within the aura you manifest have limited protection from projectiles. Any attack using projectiles against you and your allies must be rolled at disadvantage. On a failure, the projectiles burn before reaching their target. On a success, they deal half damage.

Once you create this aura, you can’t create it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend 3 ki points to create it again.

This feature also makes fire damage magical to overcome resistances, within it's allotted time.

Your list of known spells increases to the 4th and 5th levels.

Spells: Fire Shield, Wall of Fire, Flame Strike, Immolation.

Heatwave Aura

You and your allies within the aura have protection from projectiles. Any projectile attacks against you or your allies are rolled at disadvantage. On a failure, the projectiles burn before reaching their target. On a success, they deal half damage.

Rebirthed Phoenix

17th-Level Way of the Phoenix Soul Feature

Your phoenix soul reaches its peak. You gain the following benefits:

Blindsight. You gain blindsight out to 10 feet. Within that range, you can effectively see anything that isn’t behind total cover, even if you’re blinded or in darkness. Moreover, you can see an invisible creature within that range, unless the creature successfully hides from you.

Erupting Plumes. When you activate your Aspect of the Firebird, incredible fury explodes from you. Choose any number of creatures you can see in your aura. Each of those creatures must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your ki save DC or take 10d6 magical fire damage.

Advanced Rebirth. If you drop to 0 hit points in this form, all creatures within 30ft of you must succeed on a DEX saving throw or take 3d10 magical fire damage, and you gain hit points equal to the roll.

Rising Phoenix. As a free action, you can sprout wings of fire from your shoulders. You gain a flying speed equal to your movement speed for 1d4 minutes, and you regain use of this feature after a short rest.

Spells. Delayed Blast Fireball, Fire Storm, Incendiary Cloud.
