Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Blood Mages have unlocked the ways to control the veins of life itself, finding their connection of magic within the very hearts of themselves and their foes, often offering up their own life force to power their magic. Blood Magic is one of the oldest and first forms of Magic. Therefore, unlike a typical sorcerer, Blood Mages must discover and unlock this unique gift rather gain it’s powers at random chance. When creating your Blood Magic Sorcerer, think about how they found their magic. Was a ritual performed on them? Did they find secrets in an old book? Or were they the victim of Blood Magic and this awoke the power within them?

Blood Cast

You expend your life force to empower your spells. When you cast a spell other than a cantrip, you can cast it at one level higher than normal. When you do this, you take 1d4 damage per level of the spell. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, which resets after a Long Rest. This damage increases to 1d6 at 5th level, 1d8 at 10th, 1d10 at 15th, and 1d12 at 18th. Example: Calista casts burning hands, a 1st level spell, but uses Blood Cast to instead cast it at 2nd level. Calista rolls 2d4 and gets a total of 5, she takes 5 necrotic damage and then casts the spell.

Sanguine Recovery

You are capable of converting your spell slots into life energy for yourself. As a bonus action when you cast a spell that is of 1st or higher, you can choose to gain temporary hit points equal to the level of spell you casted.

Spell Siphon

You have learned to siphon the blood of your enemies to fuel your spellcasting. At 6th level, when you reduce a creature to 0hp, you may choose to regain one level 1 spell slot. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (Minimum of 1). All expended charges are regained following a long rest.

Ichor Offering

At 14th level you can draw upon your own life to protect and empower yourself. When you finish a long rest, you may choose one of the following benefits.

  • You gain 30 hit points added to your maximum, but you have -3 to your AC.
  • You gain a +4 to your spell attack bonus and spell save DC, but you have 20 hit points removed from your maximum.
  • You gain a +4 to your AC and to proficient saving throws, but you have -2 to your spell attack bonus.

The benefit you choose stays active until you finish a long rest, in which you may choose a new benefit or none at all.

Sorcerous Sacrifice

At 18th level, you can choose to drain your own life force to recharge your magical energy. As a bonus action, roll a number of hit dice equal to your current level, and take the result as damage. When you do this, you recover any used spell slots. You can use this ability once per long rest.
