Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of Tranquility embodies the principles of harnessing control over your impulses and maintaining supreme purity—which can free oneself from all negative thoughts and emotions, creating a life that is blessed with humility, discipline, and inner peace. This subclass draws heavily from the philosophies of Tai Chi and other internal martial arts, focusing on redirection, neutralization, and strategic control rather than overt aggression.

Monks following this path may share many similarities with their kind in their journey; however, they perform in complete contrast on the battlefield. This subclass is built around the use of reactions and ki management to create a unique combat style that emphasizes defense, counterattacks, and ally support. Instead of an explosive flurry of fists, The Way of Tranquility demonstrates strength in silence and wisdom.

Flow of the Cleansed Mind

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the following benefits:

  • Wisdom Above Might: The unarmed strikes you make can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage roll.

  • Counterflow Strike: When a melee attack misses you, you can use your reaction to make an unarmed strike against the attacker. If this attack hits, you can push the attacker 5 feet back. You can spend additional ki points (up to your Wisdom modifier) to increase either the damage or the pushback distance of your Counterflow Strike. Each additional ki point spent adds another 5 feet to the pushback or an extra Martial Arts die to the damage. You can choose to spend your ki after the attack hit is confirmed.

  • Safeguard Dash: When an attack targets an ally within your current movement range, you can spend 1 ki and use your reaction and movement towards the ally without provoking opportunity attacks. This movement can include a jump or a roll. Both you and the ally gain temporary hit points equal to your Martial Arts die roll + your Wisdom modifier.. You can spend additional ki points (up to your Wisdom modifier) to increase the potency of Safeguard Dash. Each additional ki point spent adds another Martial Arts roll to the total amount of temporary health gained.

  • Stillness in Motion: As a bonus action, you can extend your focus to the battlefield, controlling its pace. Choose one:

    • Gain an additional reaction until the start of your next turn;
    • Increase your AC by 2 until the start of your next turn.

Purified Competence

Upon reaching the 6th level, your diligent practices enrich your understanding of mind, body, and spirit:

  • Mindful Clarity: The clarity of your mental focus broadens your ki reserves. Gain additional maximum ki points equal to your proficiency bonus.

  • A Silent Mantra: When you hit another creature with a melee weapon attack, you can spend 1 ki point to attempt A Silent Mantra. You create an unmoving aura of silence in a 5-foot radius centered on your target. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be unable to speak or cast spells with verbal components. The aura lasts until the start of your next turn. You can maintain the aura for additional rounds by spending an additional ki point at the start of each of your turns. At the end of each of its turns within the aura, a creature can make a Wisdom saving throw; on a success, it becomes unaffected by this aura until it is reactivated. While inside the aura, you have advantage on opportunity attacks.

  • Deflective Harmony: Your Deflect Missiles ability now includes your Wisdom modifier in the damage reduction calculation and can be applied against ranged spell attacks. When you deflect a missile and make a ranged attack with it, you may infuse the missile with the essence of your Counterflow Strike, expending additional ki points (up to your Wisdom modifier) to enhance either the damage or the pushback effect.

Serenity's Embrace

When you reach the heights of the 11th level, you gain the ability to fully embrace the flow of battle by detaching from your feelings of pain and tension. Your breathing slows, your eyes close, and you allow yourself a moment of peace and tranquility. A pleasant sensation of calmness and focus radiates from you as your mind's eye opens.
Once per long rest, as an action, you can activate Serenity's Embrace and gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • Profound Vitality: Upon activating this ability, you immediately regain ki points equal to your proficiency bonus and heal for an amount five times that number.
  • Heightened Response: You are granted an additional reaction.
  • Mind's Eye: You gain the benefits of blindsight with a range of 30ft.
  • Absence of Distractions: You can now use your action or bonus action to end all effects on yourself that are causing you to be charmed or frightened.

Apex of Harmony

At 17th level, you find yourself at the zenith of your spiritual journey, having become one with the flow of the universe itself. Your ki has been refined to such purity that it acts as an extension of your will to uphold tranquility and harmony:

  • From Stillness Comes Clarity: The benefits of your Stillness in Motion effects are now permanently doubled.

  • Perfected Counterflow: Your Counterflow Strike ability is now infused with the pure essence of your ki. When you use this with a melee attack, you can push an enemy in any direction with this reaction, and if they collide with terrain, they will be left reeling from the impact, causing them to lose their reactions until the start of their next turn.

  • Safe-Guardian Dash: Your Safeguard Dash now adds your proficiency bonus to the initial temporary health gained. Additionally, you can spend 2 ki points to redirect the attack to yourself. Upon doing so, if possible, you may choose to execute a Counterflow Strike or use Deflect Missile, adapting to the nature of the attack.
