Base Class: Fighter

The Samurai is a disciplined warrior who follows the ancient code of Bushido, embodying honor, loyalty, and martial skill. They are masters of the katana, wielding their blade with precision and grace. With unwavering resolve and a commitment to duty, the Samurai stands as a paragon of martial prowess and integrity on the battlefield.

Iaijutsu Strike

At 3rd level, the Samurai gains access to the Iaijutsu Strike feature, allowing them to unleash devastating attacks with their unsheathed weapon upon drawing their weapon at the start of initiative.

Quick Draw: Iaido: The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon is considered a critical hit if it manages to land on the chosen enemy.

Quick Draw: Battojutsu: The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon bypasses initiative order, allowing the Samurai to attack first regardless of their position in the initiative order. (If you are first in initiative, you still get to attack first then start your actual turn).

Quick Draw: Toyama-ryu: The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon can target multiple enemies, attacking in a cone with a range of 10 feet. This effect can be additionally used when the character whenever the character unsheathes their blade and doesn’t have to be only used at the start of initiative.

The Samurai can use each of these quick draw styles a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus. Once all uses have been expended, the Samurai must finish a long rest before they can use them again. Additionally, the Samurai can activate these effects except for Quick Draw: Battojutsu, if their weapon has been sheathed and readied.

Quick Draw: Battojutsu

The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon bypasses initiative order, allowing the Samurai to attack first regardless of their position in the initiative order. (If you are first in initiative, you still get to attack first then start your actual turn).

Quick Draw: Iaido

The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon is considered a critical hit if it manages to land on the chosen enemy.

Quick Draw: Toyama-ryu

The first attack made with the unsheathed weapon can target multiple enemies, attacking in a cone with a range of 10 feet. This attack can be used whenever the character unsheathes their blade and isn’t restricted to the start of initiative.

Counter Attack

At 3rd level, the Samurai gains the Counter Attack feature, allowing them to capitalize on their opponent's failed attacks. When an enemy makes an attack against the Samurai and fails to surpass their Armor Class, the Samurai can immediately make a counter attack against that enemy using their reaction. This opportunity attack must be made using a melee weapon and follows the normal rules for opportunity attacks.

Battle Adept

At 3rd level, the Samurai hones their combat skills to become a master of battlefield mobility and defense. With swift movements and keen reflexes, they can dash and dodge with remarkable agility.

This feature allows the Samurai to use their bonus action to either Dash or Dodge during their turn in combat. Whether closing the distance to engage an enemy or evading incoming attacks, the Samurai's mastery of battlefield tactics allows them to maneuver with unparalleled speed and grace.

Parrying Strike

At 7th level, the Samurai gains access to the Parry Strikes feature, enabling them to defend themselves with precision and agility against melee attacks. By readying this action, the Samurai can add +2 to their Armor Class until the start of their next turn.

Additionally, any enemy that makes a melee attack against the Samurai and fails to surpass their increased Armor Class must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC of 15. If the saving throw succeeds, the attacker is pushed by 5 feet away from the character. If the saving throw fails, the attacker is knocked prone, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.

The Samurai can use this feature a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus, regaining expended uses after finishing a long rest. This feature provides the Samurai with enhanced defensive capabilities specifically against melee opponents, allowing them to deflect and counter their foes' close-range assaults.

Way Of The Sword

At 7th level, the Samurai's dedication to mastering the katana manifests in a tangible increase in their combat prowess. When wielding a melee weapon, the Samurai gains a +2 bonus to their attack rolls, and when the roll to hit lands on a 19 or above, it is a CRIT.

The Samurai can also now attack with a melee weapon twice when making a melee attack against a creature using a reaction.

Code Of The Warrior

At 10th level, the Samurai fully embodies the principles of the warrior's code, a testament to their unwavering commitment to honor and valor on the battlefield. This code instills in the Samurai a profound sense of discipline, integrity, and courage, guiding their actions both on and off the field of combat.

This feature grants the Samurai a profound connection to their inner strength and resilience. They gain a bonus of 10 feet to their movement speed, allowing them to swiftly maneuver across the battlefield with grace and precision.

Additionally, the Samurai gains advantage on Athletic checks. And advantage on Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution saving throws, reflecting their exceptional physical prowess and mental fortitude. With their steadfast adherence to the principles of the warrior's code, the Samurai stands as a paragon of martial virtue, ready to face any challenge with honor and dignity.

Master Of Fighting

At 15th level, the Samurai achieves mastery over the art of combat, becoming an unstoppable force on the battlefield. Through years of training and experience, they have honed their skills to a razor's edge, allowing them to face any challenge with unwavering confidence.

This feature grants the Samurai resistance to slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage from non-magical weapons. Their mastery of combat techniques allows them to anticipate and mitigate the impact of physical blows, shrugging off damage that would cripple lesser warriors.

Additionally, the Samurai gains a +2 bonus to initiative rolls, reflecting their heightened awareness and lightning-fast reflexes in the heat of battle. With their enhanced speed and reflexes, the Samurai can react with lightning speed to any threat, gaining the upper hand in combat engagements.

Furthermore, whenever the Samurai fails against an opponent’s armor class with an attack, or at their discretion, they can expend a use of this feature, which they have equal to their proficiency bonus per long rest, to reroll the attack. The Samurai must use this new roll, even if it's lower than the first, or they can choose to expend another use of this feature to roll again.

Pinnacle Of The Sword

At 18th level, the Samurai achieves a level of precision with their attacks that is unmatched by any other warrior. Their mastery of combat techniques allows them to strike with pinpoint accuracy, finding and exploiting the slightest weaknesses in their opponents' defenses.

With the Pinnacle Of The Sword, the Samurai gains the following benefits:

  • Whenever they score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, they can choose to maximize the damage dice rolled for the attack. This ensures that their critical hits deal the maximum possible damage, maximizing their effectiveness in combat.
  • Once per short rest as a bonus action, the Samurai can enter a state of heightened awareness for 1 minute. During this time, they gain advantage on all attack rolls and their attacks ignore any damage resistances or immunities the target may have. Additionally, any critical hits they score during this time automatically deal maximum damage.
