Base Class: Rogue
Many rogues prefer to stay out of the thick of combat, but those who choose this archetype strike fast and strike hard. They are specialists with knives and daggers, using them to enhance their fighting abilities for unparalleled ferocity in combat. Rather than using ranged weapons or hit-and-run tactics, the Stiletto prefers to dispatch their foes quickly and efficiently, before they get a chance to strike back. They would heartily agree that the best defense is a good offense.
Knife Fighter
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you have learned special skills with small blades. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can use your bonus action to make a melee attack with a dagger in your off hand, adding your ability modifier to the damage of the off-hand attack. You can make these attacks in any order you wish.
You also have advantage on Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) checks involving knives or daggers, such as performing a party trick or cutting away someone's coin purse.
Swiftstrike Tactics
Additionally, starting at 3rd level, when you hit a creature with a Knife Fighter attack, you can apply one of the following tactics to the attack. You can use a number of tactics equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you complete a short or long rest:
- Blade Twist. You twist your weapon as it exits the wound, dealing an additional 1d8 slashing damage.
- Take Down. You attempt to take your enemy to the ground. The target must make a Strength saving throw (DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your attack ability modifier) or be knocked prone. If the target succeeds on this saving throw, it instead takes 1d4 bludgeoning damage.
- Debilitating Strike. You wound your target in a particularly vulnerable area, causing excruciating pain. The target has disadvantage on attack rolls until the next time its turn ends.
Close Quarters Expert
Starting at 9th level, you can use your reaction to make a Knife Fighter attack against a creature when it enters your reach.
You have also learned how to use your knife skills to make your enemies more vulnerable. When you hit a creature with a Knife Fighter attack, the next attack roll against that creature has advantage.
Whirlwind of Blades
Beginning at 13th level, when you deal your sneak attack damage to a creature, you can also deal that sneak attack damage to any number of additional creatures of your choice within your reach. You can use this feature twice, and you regain all expended uses at the end of a long rest.
Grim Anatomist
By 17th level, your experience with daggers lends you unparalleled knowledge of anatomical vulnerabilities.
You have resistance to piercing damage as long as you are not incapacitated, as you know how to shield these weak points on your own body.
You can also strike your foes in these vulnerable areas, causing lasting damage. When you deal your Sneak Attack damage to a creature, you can force that creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your attack ability modifier). On a failed save, for 1 minute, the target takes half your Sneak Attack damage at the beginning of each of its turns, its speed is halved, and it can take either an action or bonus action on its turn (not both). The target can repeat this save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. If the target receives magical healing, it can immediately attempt the save with advantage. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses after you finish a long rest.
