Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The Order of Forgery is a secretive institution spezialized in infiltration and information gathering. Usually hidden in inconspicuous places, their libraries are a hub for forgers and the knowledge they obtain. These agents are as diverse as the magic they use. It aids them on their escapades but instead of spezializing in one school of magic, members of the Order of Forgery are taught versatility and adaptiveness. They are adept at copying patterns and quick to identify the function of magical effects, allowing them to mimic spells they don't know and casting them at a moments notice after seeing how they are cast. By observing other practicioners of magic, the order collects knowledge of more advanced magic which it discloses to proven higher ranking members.

Forger of the Order

Starting at 2nd level, your are proficient with forgery kits and can add your Intelligence modifier to skill checks made with them. In addition, your spellbook already contains certain spells provided by your order which are always prepared.

Spell Mimicry

Beginning at 2nd level, when a creature casts a spell from the wizard's spell list, you instantly know which spell it is and what level it is being cast on. If you perceive all components used for the casting of that spell and have a spell slot to cast the spell with, you may use a reaction to attempt to mimic it. Make an Intelligence (Arcana) check (DC = 8 + the spell's level it is cast on). On a success, you can expend a spell slot of an appropriate level and cast the spell yourself right after the original takes effect. Furthermore, you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks made to make out a concealed casting of a spell.

You must still provide material components and can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.

Improved Mimicry

Starting at 6th level, you commit mimicked spells to memory. If you succeed on mimicking a spell, you memorize it for 1 hour and can choose not to cast it right after. For the duration, the spell counts as prepared for you. If you begin a short or long rest, you can copy the spell into your spellbook. This process takes 1 hour and 10 gp per level of the spell, or double if the spell is of a level you don't have spell slots for. The spell must be on the wizard's spell list and you can finish copying it even after 1 hour has passed. If this process is interrupted, you lose all progress and materials used up until that point.

Deconstruction

Beginning at 10th level, you come to understand spells by deconstructing them, giving you the following benefits:

  • You gain two special uses of counterspell which are cast at 3rd level and don't require a spell slot. When you prevent a spell with this use of counterspell, you can immediately successfully mimic it by expending a use of your Spell Mimicry as part of the same reaction. You regain all expended uses after finishing a long rest.
  • When you dispel a spell you know with a duration of 1 minute or longer using dispel magic, you can instead take control and change its parameters, taking over concentration if required. For instance, once dispelled, you can take over concentration and choose to descend or rise for the remaining duration of a levitate spell cast on you by another creature, change the creatures affected by a magic circle or change the runic sequence of a teleportation circle and make it your own.

Learn and Adapt

Beginning at 14th level, you learn how to protect yourself from the effects of spells with the knowledge you gain from mimicking them. When you use your Spell Mimickry feature, you have advantage on all saving throws against that spell's effects and, if the spell requires a spell attack, the attacker has disadvantage on attack rolls with that spell against you until you finish a long rest. These benefits apply to the casting of the spell you used your Spell Mimicry on. Additionally, you keep your knowledge of a spell you mimicked until you finish a long rest, instead of an hour.

The Right Spell For Every Situation

Starting at 14th level, the versatility of your spellbook extends to you. Instead of using your Spell Mimicry on a cast spell, you can expend a use of it to look at a spell in you spellbook as an action. This spell counts as prepared for you until you finish a long rest.
