Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Wizards who do not specialize (known as as universalists) have the most diversity of all arcane spellcasters. Rather than focus on learning a school or application of magic, universalists seek to learn a wide spectrum of arcane techniques.

Additional Arcane Recovery

You gain an additional use of Arcane Recovery. You cannot expend both uses during the same short rest.

Arcane Burst

Starting when you select this subclass at third level, you gain the ability to create a devastating burst of magical energy. As an action, you point your finger at a target of your choice within 60 feet of you. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Wizard Spell Save DC. On a failed save, the target takes 1d8 force damage. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage.

When you use your Arcane Burst, you can, as a bonus action, increase the burst’s damage by expending Wizard spell slots. Each spell slot you expend increases the damage by 2d6 per level of the slot. You must choose to do this before you roll damage and before the target rolls its saving throw.

The base damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class: you roll an additional 1d8 starting at 5th level, and again at 11th level and 17th level.

Defensive Ward

Starting at 6th level in this class, whenever you finish a short or long rest, you can expend one spell slot to create a magical ward on yourself that lasts until you finish a long rest. The ward has a hit point maximum equal to five times the spell slot’s level. Whenever you take damage, the ward takes the damage instead. If this damage reduces the ward to 0 hit points, you take any remaining damage.

Master Arcanist

Starting at 10th level in this class, you gain proficiency in the Arcana skill if you don’t already have it. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses that skill. You have advantage on all Arcana checks. Whenever you make an Arcana check, you can treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10.

Ritual Mastery

Starting at 14th level in this class, when you cast a wizard spell as a ritual, you can use the spell’s normal casting time, rather than adding 10 minutes to it.
