Blood Magic is one of the lesser known schools of magic, and it's study is not for the faint of heart. All magic scholars known that the weave infuses all living beings with magic, but only those who are willing to delve deeper into the mysterious ways of the arcane find the secret of the blood mage.

Arcane Absorption

When you are hit by a magical attack or you fail a saving throw against magic, you can use your reaction to roll your hit dice and the damage taken is reduced by this amount plus your Constitution modifier ({{modifier:con}}). When you use this feature, you can’t cast spells other than cantrips until the end of your next turn, however your next cantrip is empowered by the same amount.

Strong Mind, Strong Body

Starting at 2nd level, you harness your inner power to strengthen your body. You can give yourself a bonus to your AC equal to your Constitution modifier.

Blood Surge

You can empower magical effects by sacrificing your health. You roll one hit die for each surge. Your maximum health is reduced by the result, and your hit die becomes a "Surge Die".

until your next long rest, whenever you cast a spell you can add as many surge die as you have available to the damage.

The hit dice you use to power your blood surges are spent and cannot be used for healing until your next long rest.

Crimson Secrets

You can now harness your latent power to adapt your spells.

For each slot level, roll one hit die. You take damage equal to the result and can reduce the casting time of a spell.

The hit dice are not considered spent when used in this way

1 hour - 10 minutes

10 minutes - 1 minute

1 minute - 1 action

1 action - 1 bonus action

External Sacrifice.

When you use your Blood Surge feature, you can choose to use another creature as your sacrifice. Choose up to three creatures of your choice that you can see within 60 ft. You can use one hit dice per creature. Each creature must make a CON save equal to your spell DC or take necrotic damage equal to the result of your roll. If the creature succeeds their save, you take the damage instead.
