Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins of the Oath of Spores find beauty in decay. They see within mold and other fungi the ability to transform lifeless material into abundant, albeit somewhat strange, life. These paladins believe that life and death are parts of a grand cycle, with one leading to the other and then back again. Death isn't the end of life, but instead a change of state that sees life shift into a new form.

Paladins of this circle have a complex relationship with the undead. They see nothing inherently wrong with undeath, which they consider to be a companion to life and death. But these warriors believe that the natural cycle is healthiest when each segment of it is vibrant and changing. Undead that seek to replace all life with undeath, or that try to avoid passing to a final rest, violate the cycle and must be thwarted.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Fungal Infestation. You can use your Channel Divinity to infest a corpse and animate it. If a beast or a humanoid that is Small or Medium dies within 10 feet of you, you can use your reaction to animate it, causing it to stand up immediately with 1 hit point. The creature uses the Zombie stat block in the Monster Manual (With possible exceptions). It remains animate for 1 hour, after which time it collapses and dies.

In combat, the zombie's turn comes immediately after yours. It obeys your mental commands, and the only action it can take is the Attack action, making one melee attack. (At the DMs discretion, it may instead use an attack it could have used when alive.)

Symbiotic Entity. You can use your Channel Divinity to reinforce your body with mycelium. As an action, you become one with the fungal network for 1 minute or until you go unconscious. While this effect is active, once per turn when you successfully hit with a melee weapon attack, you can choose one of the following effects:

  • Deal extra necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
  • Gain temporary hit points equal to your level in this class.

You can end this effect on your turn as part of any other action.

Aura of Spores

Beginning at 7th level, your connection to mushrooms has grown so strong that you expel a constant aura of imperceptible spores around you. When you gain temporary hit points, any ally within 10 ft. gains the same amount.

Additionally, you now are able to use the poison spray cantrip as a bonus action.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Undying Host

Starting at 15th level, your connection to the fungal network sustains your existence. When you are reduced to 0 hit points and are not killed outright, you can choose to drop to 1 hit point instead. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest. You now suffer none of the drawbacks of old age, and you can’t be aged magically.

You can now keep your fungal zombie indefinitely, though once it dies you can't animate it again.

Perfect Symbiote

At 20th level, you can unleash the full might of the spores you harbor. You grow mushrooms of different varieties along your body, and the cloud of spores you emit becomes visible as a deathly halo.

Using your action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain truesight with a range of 120 feet.
  • You can stack temporary hit points. (sources of temporary hit points don't cancel each other out; if you gained 5 from a spell and 3 from a trait, you would have 8.)
  • Enemies within your spore aura have Vulnerability to necrotic and poison damage.
  • Additionally, this action can be taken with the same action made to use your Channel Divinity: Symbiotic Entity.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
