Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

A Shadowmancer is a dedicated rogue who uses the dark shadows of the world they inhabit to strike not only more effectively but also gain knowledge of the dark places many people inhabit. They have the ability to not only use the shadows as weapons or as cover but also use it to connect with the world that is bound in them. Harnessing the negative energy that is inherent to both the Shadowfell and the Domains of Dread, they have the unique ability to share the power of negative energy with the material plane and beyond. Some view this power as a burden that needs to be treasured so it doesn't destroy the other planes while others use its awesome power for their own gain. The shadows aren't the evil but the heart of the Shadowmancer can bend them to their will.

Born of Darkness

3rd-level Shadowmancer feature

Your nature as one gifted by the shadows allows you to see and live in the darkness as its ally. You gain 60 feet of dark vision if you don't have it to that distance already, and the ability to see through magical darkness as if it was regular dim light or darkness.

Your affinity to the shadows also allows you to befriend creatures allied to them much more easily. You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made against creatures with 60 feet or greater of darkvision. And creatures made primarily of darkness or shadows see you as an ally and will not attack you unless provoked.

Quench Light

3rd-level Shadowmancer feature

You can use the innate darkness of the world to attune yourself better to the Shadows. Your control over this darkness lets you dim and kill the lights around you wherever you move. Simply by using an action you can douse any flame with darkness around you and turn the world to the darkness you know.

You are so attuned to the darkness that you can call the shadows your friends. While in dim light or darkness, any attack you make against an enemy who is in dim light or darkness is considered to be made with an enemy of theirs within 5 feet granting you the ability to add sneak attack to that strike.

Shadow Meld

9th-level Shadowmancer feature

Your familiarity with the shadows of the world grants you the ability to meld into any shadows you find and traverse the world as one of them. While in dim light or darkness, you can use an action to become Meld with Shadows present. While in this form you can move along any surface appearing as a shadow being cast by a small figure somewhere in the area. You can stay melded as a shadow for a number of hours equal to your Constitution modifier.

While in this form you grant the following benefits:

  • Your walking speed is halved, and is used to determine how fast you can move as a shadow. You can also move onto or along any surface, as if you were climbing with no ability check
  • Any perception check to discern where you are hiding is done at disadvantage, and you emit no sound allowing you to move stealthfully without any regard to which sounds you are making.
  • Your size can be reduced to Small. While you are moving as a shadow you can squeeze into any opening with a circumference of at least 1 inch, taking 1d8 force damage if you end your turn squeezing in a tight area.
  • You are not considered to be a creature of any type, preventing any spell that targets any humanoid/any monster type from being used on you.
  • While in this form you are considered to be concentrating on a spell, preventing you from concentrating on a different spell while in this form.
  • If you take any radiant damage, or move into an area of bright light you are blinded for a minute or as long as you stay in the area of bright light.

Shadow Lance

13th-level Shadowmancer feature

The shadows of the world have become an extension of you. While standing in the shadows your opponents have made themselves vulnerable to your strikes, not only in their flesh but also in their minds. Your control over the shadows lets you attack any target who is not in Bright Light with a melee attack originating from you, even if you are not within range. This attack also ignores any form of cover or magical protection as long as you can see or hear your target.

Grasping Shadows

17th-level Shadowmancer feature

Being steeped in shadows allows you to gain the following benefits while Shadow Meld Form:

  • You gain resistance to all damage except for Radiant and Psychic.
  • You can target a second creature when making an attack roll. If it hits its AC the attack is made against both creatures, and they both take the same damage. They can only both take Sneak Attack damage if they are both eligible to take sneak attack damage
