Base Class: Monk

Monks who traverse the Way of the Sanguine favor using their ki points to manipulate the blood of others, rather than bolstering their own abilities, such as with flurried blows or quick dashes. 

Ensanguinate

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can implant small amounts of your blood, applying a Sanguine Mark, when damaging a creature with an unarmed strike or melee monk weapon and spending 1 ki point. When you are at half hit points or lower, doing so applies two Sanguine Marks. 

You can Exsanguinate targets, consuming any number of Sanguine Marks on one creature within 60 feet, to cause one of the following effects:

  • 1 Sanguine Mark consumed (Hemorrhage): As an action, deal 1 of your martial arts die in unmitigable damage per Mark consumed to the target.
  • 1 Sanguine Mark consumed (Bloodsense): As a bonus action, cast Hunter's Mark on the target, lasting an hour, except that the effect does not require concentration and cannot be moved to a new target.
  • 1 Sanguine Mark consumed (Ache): As a bonus action, until the end of its next turn, the target cannot make attacks of opportunity or use the dash action. 
  • 3 Sanguine Marks consumed (Transfuse): As a bonus action, deal 1 of your martial arts die in unmitigable damage per Mark consumed (minimum 3) to the target and heal a creature within 60 feet of both you and the damaged target for half the amount dealt.
  • 5 Sanguine Marks consumed (Leech): As an action, steal a saving throw, skill, tool, or weapon proficiency from the target for 1 minute. The creature can attempt a Wisdom saving throw at the start of each of its turns to end the effect early.
  • 7 Sanguine Marks consumed (Puppeteer): As an action, you dominate the target, as per the Dominate Creature spell, for 2 rounds. For every additional Mark consumed, you increase the duration by 1 round.
  • 9 Sanguine Marks consumed (Entrap): As a bonus action, claim the target creature's soul for 1 hour. If it dies before the duration ends, the soul is affected by the Soul Cage spell. The soul remains in your control for 1 hour or until you use it 6 times.
  • 11 Sanguine Marks consumed (Arrest): As an action, affect the creature with the Power Word Kill spell.

When you attack and Ensanguinate a target, applying a stack of Sanguine Mark, you can redirect any number of existing Marks from one other target within 60 feet to the new target. Sanguine Marks persist on a target for 1 hour or until it dies.

Hematopoietic Ritual

At 6th level, you gain the ability to increase the regeneration of your own blood, as well as the blood within surrounding allies. As part of a short rest,  you and any creature you choose resting within 10 feet of you can heal for 1 of your martial arts die, in addition to their own hit dice, when they heal that way.

Additionally, if a creature you affect with this ritual has a lower hit die value than your martial arts die, their hit dice become equal to your martial arts die in value for purposes of self healing during the short rest.

Sanguine Storm

You have learned how to conjure a storm of your own blood at the cost of your vitality. Starting at 11th level, as an action and by dealing a number of your martial arts dice in damage to yourself equal to half your monk level, rounded down, you create a violent maelstrom of blood centered on yourself with a radius of 20 feet.

Creatures, other than yourself, caught within make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they suffer an even amount of bludgeoning and slashing damage equal to the damage you dealt to yourself, and they gain 1 point of exhaustion until the end of their next turn. On a success, the damage is halved, and they do not become exhausted.

Creatures damaged by the storm that are affected by at least 1 Sanguine Mark make the save with disadvantage. 

Mass Exsanguinate

You can now more freely access the controlled blood within targets you have ensanguinated. At 17th level, all Exsanguinate options become bonus actions, as you quickly cause the effects you desire.

As an action, you can Exsanguinate any number of creatures within 60 feet of you that have at least 1 Sanguine Mark, causing any effect on each one, as long as they have enough Marks to be consumed.
