Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Mad Mages have less mastered a tradition and more succumbed to wreckless experimentations of their mastery. Whether they drank an unstable elixir, been the subject of some failed experiment, or reached beyond their grasp for powers that reached back at them,  Mad Mages have been changed. These magical evolutions take on many forms from physical transformations to complete personality shifts. The wizards who can even remember all that may have transpired during their alter-ego's control usually feel a deep sense of shame, but there are some who embrace what they have become.

Alter Dominance

You can invoke your alter or have it take prevalence, provided you aren't under the effects of the charmed or incapacitated. Doing so graces you with supernatural speed, agility, and focus. All Mad Mages have a trigger of some sort – the tinkling of a bell, the smell of orchids, or the calling of a certain name. The trigger may be anything you determine but the DM should know what the trigger is even if the character does not.

You can use a bonus action to undergo the change, which lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are incapacitated, if you suffer the effects of charming or if your trigger occurs. You can dismiss the transformation at any time (no action required), but you must make a Wisdom saving throw equal to 10 plus the number of minutes you have been changed. Failure to change back to your original identity could result in a permanent dominance of your alter-ego.

While your Alter is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).
  • Your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
  • You have advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks.
  • You gain a bonus to any Constitution saving throw you make to maintain your concentration on a spell. The bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
