Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Freedom appeals to paladins who place the highest value on autonomy, self-determination, and the rights of individuals to govern their own lives. These paladins, known as liberators, believe that freedom is the highest virtue and that every being should have the ability to choose their own path without coercion, whether from oppressive rulers, rigid systems, or external forces. Liberators can be champions of personal liberty or warriors against tyranny, guided by their own interpretation of what true freedom means.

Whether they strive for a world without rulers or simply a world where rulers do not overreach, liberators are united by their commitment to the cause of freedom. Their methods can vary widely but their goal is always the same : to ensure that every being has the right to live as they choose.

Tenets of Freedom

The tenets of the Oath of Freedom emphasize the importance of liberty, autonomy, and the protection of individual rights, with a strong focus on ensuring that the paladin themselves remains free.

Breaker of Chains. No one should live under oppression or control. Whether you fight to overthrow tyrants or to free individuals from unjust constraints, your mission is to break the bonds that limit personal freedom.

Autonomy. Encourage self-reliance and personal responsibility. Freedom is best maintained when individuals are empowered to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their own lives.

Model of Freedom. Ensure that your actions and beliefs remain your own, unshackled by external forces or dogma. Your liberty is your most valuable weapon in the fight for the freedom of others.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Liberation. When any creature you can see within 30 ft fail a save against being grappled, incapacitated, paralysed, petrified, restrained, or, stunned, you can use your reaction and your Channel Divinity to make that creature succeed instead.

Emancipating presence. As an action, you present your holy symbol and, using your Channel Divinity, begin to preach Freedom. Each creature that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a fail, if the creature is lawful, it is Frightened of you for 1 minute, else, it is Charmed by you for 1 minute or until it takes damage. In both case, another creature can end the effect by using its action to make a persuasion or intimidation check on the creature contested by its insight check and succeed.

You can also choose any number of creatures within reach to share a number of temporary hit point equal to twice your paladin level.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Evasive strike

Beginning at 15th level, when you use your Divine Smite, you can choose a number of creatures up to your charisma modifier who can see or hear you within 20ft of you. Those creatures can use their reaction to move up to half their speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Knight of the Wind

At 20th level, as an action, you can emanate an aura of sunlight. For 1 minute, bright light shines from you in a 30-foot radius, and dim light shines 30 feet beyond that.

Creatures affected by your aura of liberty have advantage on saving throw against being grappled, incapacitated, [Tooltip Not Found], petrified, restrained, stunned or possessed.

You are under the effects of a freedom of movement spell and a haste spell.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
