Base Class: Wizard
Wizards of the School of Scribal Mastery harness the power of the written word. Their spells are not only learned but inscribed, and their understanding of languages and texts is unparalleled. They use their mastery of literacy to gain advantages in spellcasting, communication, and even combat.
Scribe’s Insight
At 2nd level, when you choose this subclass, you gain proficiency in the Calligrapher's supplies. If you already have proficiency with them, you can double your proficiency bonus to any ability check you make that uses Calligrapher's supplies.
Additionally, you can use your Calligrapher's supplies to transcribe spells into spell books or scrolls at twice the usual speed. You can also create a "Grimoire" for any spell you know. When you cast a spell from your Grimoire, you have advantage on your spell attack rolls and saving throw DCs for that spell.
Compendium of Knowledge
Starting at 2nd level, you become a compendium of knowledge on a vast array of topics. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses the Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion skills if you are proficient in that skill. In addition, your analytical abilities are so well-honed that your initiative in combat can be driven by mental agility, rather than physical agility. When you roll initiative, you can use your Intelligence modifier in place of your Dexterity modifier.
Annotated Magic
Starting at 6th level, you can inscribe magical annotations onto your spell book or other surfaces. As a bonus action, you can touch a surface and write a magical note. Choose one of the following effects:
- Protection: You can create a ward that grants you or a creature you touch temporary hit points equal to your wizard level.
- Knowledge: You can grant yourself or a creature you touch advantage on an Intelligence-based skill check.
- Clarity: You can grant yourself or a creature you touch advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
Each effect lasts for 1 hour. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once) per long rest.
Master Scribe
At 10th level, your mastery of written words extends to your spells. When you cast a spell that has a verbal component, you can choose to replace the verbal component with a written one. You must write the spell's incantation on a piece of paper or another suitable surface. This written spell still functions normally, but you can also cast it as a reaction to an enemy casting a spell within 30 feet of you, interrupting their spell if it requires concentration.
Legendary Manuscript
At 14th level, you can create a Legendary Manuscript. This powerful tome contains advanced magical secrets. You can create one Legendary Manuscript during a long rest by spending 1 hour writing it and 500 gp worth of rare inks and materials. Once per long rest, you can consult this manuscript to gain one of the following benefits:
- Arcane Revelation: You can cast any wizard spell you know without expending a spell slot. You must finish a long rest before using this feature again.
- Timely Insight: You can gain a glimpse of the future, giving you advantage on attack rolls, saving throws, or ability checks until the end of your next turn.
- Scripted Protection: You can create a protective aura around yourself or an ally, giving them resistance to all damage types for 1 minute.
The Legendary Manuscript remains with you until you choose to create a new one or it is destroyed.
