Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Born to the blazing heat of the furnace and the clattering of steel upon steel, you have always felt most at home crafting. Whether it be forging a magnificent weapon, or armor to stand guard against invaders, a Forgeborn trusts no equipment other than their own.

Heart of the Smith

Upon choosing this archetype at 3rd level, the power of forges resides within you. While wearing heavy armor made of metal, you reduce nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage you take by an amount equal to your proficiency bonus. Additionally, whenever you deal bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage with a weapon made of metal, you may convert half of the damage dealt to fire damage.

Living Forge

Additionally at 3rd level, your blacksmithing soul allows you to work anywhere. You gain proficiency in smith's tools. Over the course of a short rest, you may craft a metal object at blazing speeds without even requiring a forge. You may craft a simple or martial weapon, a suit of armor, ten pieces of ammunition, a set of tools, or another metal object (DMs discretion) over the course of this short rest provided you have smith's tools. The object created can have a value no more than 50 gold × your Fighter level, and you must provide metal with a gold value equal to or above what you are trying to craft. You may provide metal coins for this purpose.

Metalwork Perfection

Upon reaching 7th level, your ability to craft only grows. Over the course of a long rest, you may apply an artificer infusion of your choice to a weapon or armor made of metal which you are proficient in. This infusion chosen must not have a level prerequisite. The item only gains the benefits of the infusion while it is being used by you, and this effect is nonmagical—it does not make the infused item magical if it was not already. If you use this feature again successfully, your old item loses its infusion.

Bellows Breath

Beginning at 10th level, you are able to expel the heat residing within you. When you take the attack action on your turn, you may use your bonus action to cast the Burning Hands spell, requiring no somatic components. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this feature. You may cast this spell this way a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (Minimum of 1), regaining all expended uses upon completing a long rest. While you have no uses of this feature, you are unable to use your Living Forge ability.

Unbearable Heat

At 15th level, the heat you produce begins to become unbearable. Whenever you deal fire damage to a creature, that creature becomes Incapacitated until the start of their next turn.

Master of the Forge

Finally at 18th level, your blacksmithing abilities are unmatched. You gain the following benefits:

  • Your gold value limit from Living Forge is increased to 100 times your Fighter level, rather than 50 times.
  • You may apply an unlimited number of infusions as per your Metalwork Perfection ability. Each item can only hold one infusion and they still only work while wielded by you however.
  • When casting burning hands from your Bellows Breath feature, it is cast at 3rd level.
