Base Class: Ranger
Valdwyn Silverfang is one of the two Ancestors of the Ranger Lodges, along with Ael Theran. Whereas Theran has always preferred to hunt his prey from afar, Valdwyn has mastered the use of his paired blades, the Silver Fangs, for use in his hunts. The Rangers of the Grey Fang Lodge follow in his example and study the records of his teachings, seeking to emulate Valdwyn's own legendary skill. To this end they walk the Path of the Hunter, stalking the dangerous forgotten corners of Cyradil, to slay the most dangerous beasts that only the Old Wolf himself dared to call prey.
Hunter’s Lore
You can call on the forces of nature to reveal certain strengths and weaknesses of your prey. While a creature is marked by your Hunter’s Mark, you know whether that creature has any Immunities, Resistances, or Vulnerabilities, and if the creature has any, you know what they are.
Hunting Stance
As a bonus action, you can assume one of the Hunting Stance below. If you are Incapacitated, knocked prone, Grappled, or Stunned you are removed from your stance.
- Sundering Bite: while in this stance you gain the following benefits:
- Enhanced Critical: you critically hit on a roll of 19 or 20, instead of just 20, when making attacks against the target of your Hunter's Mark
- You ignore resistance to piercing damage on melee attacks against the target of your Hunter's Mark.
- Sweeping Claw: while in this stance you gain the following benefits
- Swarm Slayer: You may deal the additional damage of your Hunter's Mark to creatures of the same type as your Marked Target on a hit with a melee attack. You may only deal this additional damage once per turn, and only against creatures within reach of you and 5 feet of your Marked Target.
- You ignore resistance to slashing damage on melee attacks against the target of your Hunter's Mark.
You may use your bonus action to change your stance on subsequent turns. You may leave your stance as a free action on any subsequent turn.
Primal Surge
When you are attacked, you may use your Reaction to activate Primal Surge. When you Primal Surge:
- You gain Temporary Hit points equal to half your Ranger level + Dex Modifier.
- In addition, you may choose to gain the benefits of Haste for a number of turns equal to your proficiency bonus. When this effect ends you are incapacitated, have your speed reduced to 0 till the end of your next turn, and you gain 1 point of exhaustion.
You may use this this feature once per short or long rest. You may also use your Reaction during your turn to activate Primal Surge.
Final Forms
While in a Hunting Stance, you may choose to perform it's Final Form. If you do, you gain 1 point of exhaustion and are removed from your stance at the end of your turn.
- Go for the Throat: While in in Sundering Bite stance, each time you make an attack against your Marked Target, you take the maximum value of all damage dice when dealing damage.
- Blur of Fangs: While in Sweeping Claw stance, you can use your action to make a melee attack against any number of creatures within 5 feet of you, with a separate attack roll for each target. When you do, you may treat these creatures as being the same type of creature as your Marked Target and within 5 of it.
Improved Primal Surge
You are no longer Incapacitated as a result of gaining the benefits of Haste as a part of your Primal Surge; in addition, you are only reduced to half your movement speed till the end of your next turn. You may use this ability an additional time per Short or Long Rest.
