Base Class: Ranger
The Bloomwarden is a ranger deeply attuned to the natural world, with an emphasis on plants, flowers, and healing energies. They form a unique bond with a flora companion or animal companion that aids them in both nurturing life and protecting it. The Bloomwarden’s magic flows from nature itself, with each ability tied to the flora of the wilds and the healing properties found within.
Floral Bond
At 3rd level, you form a deep connection with a Flora Companion, which you can summon at will. This could be a flowering plant with sentient abilities (like a blooming treant sapling or a vine-laden guardian), or you may choose a small animal companion that is adorned with flowers and infused with nature's healing essence (such as a rabbit with blossoms blooming in its fur, or a wolf entwined in vines and petals).
- Flora Companion: It acts as your loyal companion, aiding in battle and using its presence to heal allies. It has its own stat block, similar to a ranger's animal companion, but with resistance to poison and radiant damage.
- Healing Petals: As a bonus action, you can direct your Flora Companion to emit soothing, fragrant petals that restore health. You can heal an ally within 30 feet by an amount equal to 1d4 + your Wisdom modifier. This increases as you level up (to 2d4 at 7th, 3d4 at 11th, and 4d4 at 15th).
While traveling through your favored terrain with only the beast, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.
If the beast dies, you can obtain a new companion by spending 8 hours magically bonding with a beast that isn’t hostile to you and that meets the requirements.
Flora Companion
Your Flora Companion shares your initiative in combat, acts on your turn, and obeys your commands. If it is reduced to 0 hit points, it withers and can be revived after a short or long rest, regaining full hit points. While the companion is summoned, you can use the following actions:
- Thorny Grasp (Attack): The Flora Companion lashes out with thorn-covered vines, dealing 1d8 piercing damage, or 2d8 at higher levels.
- Blooming Aura (Healing): Your Flora Companion emits an aura of blossoms in a 10-foot radius. Each ally in this area heals for 1d6 hit points at the start of their turn.
Flora Companion Types (choose one):
-
Blossom Treant Sapling: A small, sapling-like creature that can root itself into the ground to become immovable. It is stronger in defensive abilities, can grant temporary hit points, and can heal more effectively with Healing Petals.
-
Floral Animal Companion: An animal companion like a fox, wolf, or deer adorned with natural flora. It is faster and more agile than the treant sapling and can weave between allies, using its floral magic to provide quick healing bursts.
Blossom Arrow
When you use your action to attack, you may infuse your arrows or thrown weapons with blossom magic. Once per turn, when you hit with a ranged weapon attack, flowers bloom on the target, and one ally within 5 feet of the target heals for 1d6 hit points.
Verdant Resurgence
Your connection to nature allows you to tap into the restorative power of plants.
- Verdant Surge: As an action, you can call forth a burst of floral energy to heal yourself and allies in a 15-foot radius around you. Each creature regains hit points equal to 2d6 + your Wisdom modifier.
- Nature’s Shelter: Allies affected by Verdant Surge are also lightly obscured by blossoming vines and petals for 1 minute, granting them a +2 bonus to AC as they weave through the plant life.
You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Rooted Defense
You and your Flora Companion have mastered the art of defensive synergy. When either you or your companion are targeted by an attack, the other may use a reaction to intercept, granting resistance to all damage from the attack.
Additionally, when you heal a creature using Healing Petals or Verdant Surge, they gain temporary hit points equal to the healing provided.
Nature's Rebirth
Once per long rest, you can channel the full might of nature to restore life to the fallen. As an action, you call upon Nature’s Rebirth, causing vibrant flowers to bloom around a fallen ally within 30 feet of you. The target is revived with hit points equal to half their maximum HP, and they are freed of any poison or disease affecting them.
Additionally, any allies within 10 feet of the revived creature regain 2d6 hit points as the healing energy flows through the flowers.
