Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

In a world filled with dangerous monsters, fiends, Devils, Fey, and Eldritch abominations, a select few still understand the greatest threat to the common man and polite society is simply a mage who has abandoned ethics and morality in the pursuit of the power to manipulate reality. These rangers take on the dangerous job of hunting down and mages who have used their magic for malevolence. Because of this they have learned specific tactics to fight mages and hardened their body and minds against magic.

Mage Hunter Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Mage Hunter Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Mage Hunter Spells

Magic Defense

When you fail a saving throw against a spell or other magical effect, you receive a bonus to your next saving throw. The bonus is equal to the number of consecutive failed saving throws you made but cannot exceed equal to your proficiency bonus modifier.

When you succeed on a saving throw from a spell or other magical effect, the number resets to 0. The number also resets to 0 at the end of a Long rest.

Persistance

You gain proficiency in one saving throw of your choice.

Mage slayer

When a creature within 5 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature.
When you damage a creature that is concentrating on a spell, that creature has disadvantage on the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration.

Improved Magical Defense

When you are subjected to a saving throw and you have the maximum number of "counters" you can have at one time, you can choose to automatically succeed on the saving throw, resetting the bonus of your magical defense. Further, the bonus from your magical defense feature increases by 2 for each failed saving throw instead of 1 but still cannot exceed your proficiency modifier.
